I don't know how others are but in my family, my grandma makes a turkey for Thanksgiving, and either Turkey, Pot Roast or Ham for Christmas.

All of us NON-JW's go over to celebrate and enjoy the time with the family, now the JW's in the family always say, We'll be over the day after, they eat the same turkey we did for Thanksgiving, eat the same food, pies, etc. we did but just the next day? I always wondered why? OK not like my grandma just make that turkey just because it was thursday?

I mean that turkey was Thanksgiving Turkey, now they give us crap for celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, but oh its ok for them to take left over and even one Aunt calls my grandma for special requests a few days before, like save her a turkey leg.

Very hippocritical in my opinion that they condemn her and us for celebrating pagan holidays when we should know better, and that we are making Jehovah mad for doing so, but Jehovah is cool with the pagan leftovers!

I am a third generation witmess. We ALWAYS had turkey for Thanksgiving. Growing up I can remember many family reuniouns at thanksgiving and other holidays where we had the traditional foods.

It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't make a big stink over things like the Christmas tree, or the Santa outside, one of my Nazi JW aunts even told my grandma to take down the tree so they could come over for the left overs the "day after"

The creator of the universe won't get angry about humans eating the same food if our planet makes one more rotation- then he's cool and won't punish you.

We'll be over the day after, they eat the same turkey we did for Thanksgiving, eat the same food

I would screw them around a little. Thanksgiving "day" is Monday. Try to have the big "Turkey Day" on Sunday...The day before Thanksgiving. They will no doubt refuse which will add strength to the argument that they are nothing but nit pickers over dates.

OOOPS forgot... Canadian Thanksgiving is this Monday

I am cooking a great big turkey and a ham for a thanksgiving dinner we are co-hosting with my BFF. I am proudly displaying the turkey day arts and crafts my children have brought home from school this week. I had a lovely conversation with my 7 year old about what he is thankful for.

I am not stressing having a turkey dinner with my worldly friends. I am not explaining to my 7 year old why I won't hang the picture of turkey with the caption "Eat Ham" in my fridge for everyone to see. I am not crying myself to sleep from loneliness because no one from my family sees fit to call or write.

I was told by a JW - "I can eat the birthday cake the next day...just not the day of the birthday" This is someone in the org for 20+ years. Then know of some that go to watch the Fireworks for 4th of July.

What an embarrasement that faith is. How can grown adults be caught up in this type of living, in this day and age, I'll never get it.

This type of thinking is known as "doublethink" as coined by the great George Orwell.
