I think in both cases someone is found guilty.

Suspended sentence means they don't have to serve (more) time in jail.

Stay is delayed but can be enforced for future infraction or violation of terms.

Maybe some legal people will have further details.

suspended sentence . A sentence postponed so that the defendant is not required to serve time unless he or she commits another crime or violates some other court-imposed condition. • A suspended sentence, in effect, is a form of probation. -- Also termed withheld sentence .

Here's what Black's Law Dictionary says.

The person would have to be found guilty for the judge to be able to pass sentence.

If a person was given a 2 year suspended prison sentence they would not be sent to jail at first. If they committed no further crimes in a certain period, then this would expire and they would not go to prison. However, if they are found guilty of another crime they have to serve the 2 years in prison, plus whatever sentence they get for the second crime.

Yup, you guys have it. The person was found guilty. The judge is showing mercy. If the person is truly repentant, nothing will happen. If they fall afoul of the law again, the sentence for the FIRST crime and the SECOND will both kick in.
