With all of the loss that we are experiencing, I wanted to chose a different musical topic today. What albums do you find highly addicting, in spite of being about very depressing subject matter. Mine is by Lou Reed called "Magic And Loss."

He wrote the music after losing two of his closest friends to cancer within less than a year. Listening to it is cathartic. You cry through the whole thing and cannot stop listening.

I am playing it tonight in remembrance of Linda, and my most loyal JW friend that died of lung cancer not long ago.

Mike was a friend that totally disregarded the shunning policy when I was disfellowshipped. I ask him why, and he said that it didn't count because we were brothers. He helped me in ways that no other human would have or been able to. He helped me in a situation of having to investigate my ex-wife for me to get scriptural grounds for divorce. He helped me obtain a copy of the "Pay Attention" book before the information was available online. He was of limited means, but one of his favorite pastimes was to buy groceries anonymously and leave them on the doorsteps of people suffering hardships. He would buy flowers anonymously and send them to those that were hurting. I loved him, and miss him so much.

So I am listening again to this painful music to remember and love. I recommend it to all who have never heard it.

    John

I had a friend who died of lung cancer. They played his favorite song at the church...Hotel California. To this day, I cannot listen to this song without having tears in my eyes...and my heart:-(

Hmmm....the only album I can think of that takes me away (from everyday issues etc.) "DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED" by The Moody Blues

When I want to ride out a meloncholy mood, I usually put on Jackson Browne. Specific song, "For A Dancer." But there are a lot of songs that help me out.

Music is one of the best ways for me to get my emotions out as I tend to keep things bottled up inside until I run out of space.

    Moody Blues are nice too.
