according to the wikipedia article on this vision(yes i know its not known for its scholarly merits), the angel falling 70 rungs off the ladder represents the babylonish captivity, according to one jewish interpretation. my question is, how long to modern jews believe they were held in captivity in babylon? 70? 50?

We still have the trappings of babylon in our society today. Babylon the great is much more than merely false religion. It is the entire system of politics, religion, sorcery (modern medicine; pharmakeia). scriptures tell us that it will remain so until Christ returns. So obviously he did not return in 1914 or these bonds would not still be here.
