So last night me and my man decided to go test drive our new kite, we bought it as a joke from a toy shop at the weekend, not thinking we would ever actually go try it out, but a friend said how lovely weather was and how it was perfect for kite flying, so after work off we went! and can i just say.....IT WAS SOOO MUCH FUN!! You wouldnt believe. We had such a laugh, especially when my man ran up a hill with the kite behind him in the air (there wasnt enough wind apparently )

But i would certainly recommend it, its not an expensive sport to do, unless you go pro, but then any sport is expensive when you go pro! Its quite relaxing, apart from when you have to run backwards to get the kite to stay up in the air ( watch out for ditches, ya need eyes in the back fo your head!)

My wife got me into kite flying. It's a load of fun! We still do it once in a while.

I agree - kite flying - totally recommended.

I grew up - in the city - always wanting to fly a kite. My mom - never allowed it. "Too many power lines." "Not enough wind." etc. She also told stories of how as a child she always made her own kites.

Anyway - when I left home - I moved out in an area where there was lots of wind - and not many power lines around. I bought my very first kite.

I flew it, too. Awesome experience! I highly recommend it.

My daughter and her hubby always go out and fly kites. They have cool ones too. *envious* Anyway, I always have to think of the song, "Let's Go Fly a Kite" from the movie, "Mary Poppins"

LOL, that is the song i was singing to my man as we walked along the field. He found it highly amusing, not sure because i was singing while walking past a rugby pitch full of rugby players, or the fact that i just cant sing in tune hehe.

A couple years ago we took a trip down the Oregon coast and I bought my daughter a kite. When we got to the first beach I was showing her how to fly a dual line kite and I discovered how fun it was myself. A doctor that works in my clinic competes in kite flying so he gave a few pointers. I only had the basic single line kite as a kid. My daughter was getting annoyed that I was "hogging it" so I ended up buying another one for myself. It was a re-discovery for me as to how much fun it was and relaxing to. When you are focusing on the kit you can't have anything else on your mind.

Just think of the surveillance equipment you can put on a kite rather inclandestinely. Why, you could spy on your neighbors really good with a kite. Hmm, I've heard that they used to have man carrying kites in ancient wars. That sounds rather useful also. Imagine throwing water balloons from a kite!

Have you any idea what images are conjured up in my mind by a thread on kite flying started by a poster called BigBloomerz?

Seriously, I used to love flying kites when I was young, I'm in an ideal location - close to areas where it's very rarely not windy! I always wanted to have a 'proper' kite but they were too expensive - had to make do with the regular diamond shaped piece of plastic with 2 tinny bits of wood and thin string - it was so windy that they rarely lasted more than a couple of weeks
