Is Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses- Woodland Park Congregation a charity??

Obviously! Take a look at this page:
    http://www100.charitablegift.org/annual/recipients/k.shtml

The text on the page states:

Thanks to our donors, since 1992 we have made $2 billion in grants to over 56,000 charities throughout the U.S., making Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund one of America's leading public charities and #1 grantmaker.

Then is listed this fantastic charity called the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses- Woodland Park.

Me thinks the Born Again President Bush should Grow Up!

Thanks to Nelly for the research

Very interesting! Makes you wonder what else has been going on during the rule of the apostate GB?

    Cheers,

Whoa, people! Think this through. When a JW puts money in the contribution box at the Kingdom Hall, what is he doing? Right. He or she is donating to a charitable cause, at least in his or her eyes. It is tax-deductable.

That's all this is. If you read how this works, individuals contribute money to their own fund, then tell Fidelity who they want to donate money to, Fidelity then follows their instructions and takes care of the donation, and handles all the paperwork for the individual. This is nothing more than the little old sister dropping in a dollar at the Kingdom Hall, except it's for individuals with a lot more money to give, and it's done in a way to handle the taxable records easily and automatically. Fidelity doesn't care who gets the money -- it's not up to them anyway. It's up to the individuals only.

You can't get upset at this unless you are also getting upset every time a JW puts money in the contribution box. It's identical.

Seeker or Mad's alter-ego, you miss the point. They make themselves look like a charity for the good of the General Public, not themselves. Kent does right to point this out. Thank you Kent and Nelly!

IF this is the Woodland Park hall in Colorado - I know some folks that attend there. They also recently remodeled the KH - perhaps ran a bit short on funds????

Whether the people I know would be willing to comment on this topic is another story.

Off topic - Woodland Park I believe is where those escaped inmates from Oklahoma holed up for awhile masquerading as bible studying fundies.

    Interesting news...

I missed no point. Of course they are being self-serving, but that's a different topic. The topic of this thread was the web site that Kent found. And that web site was merely a collection of names of recipients of money as stated by the donors. In other words, that site isn't calling the KH a charity, some JW somewhere said it. That site is merely a record that somewhere a JW wanted to give money to his or her KH.

Now, if you want to start a thread that shows some wrongdoing on the part of the WTS, I'm there. But this site shows nothing wrong, unless you want to argue that the U.S. government is wrong to classify religions (all of them) charitiable organizations for tax purposes. You could make that argument, but until they change the law, JWs will continue to give money to their local Hall and deduct it on their taxes.

You can call me names if you wish, but my point stands. There is nothing on that site that shows wrongdoing by the WTS, unless you call anyone giving money to their local Hall wrong. If so, fine, start a thread on that topic.

You make a very good point Seeker! As always you see through Kent's propaganda and cut to the heart of the matter. There is only one thing that puzzled me. Someone mentioned "grant givers." Did it state anywhere on that site that the list is comprised of "grant" givers, or was the word "grant" used? If so, then it implies the Kingdom Hall itself is giving grant money to some cause, as opposed to individuals placing charitable donations in the contribution box.

The very first line on that site states: "Thanks to our donors, since 1992 we have made $2 billion in grants to over 56,000 charities throughout the U.S., making Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund one of America's leading public charities and #1 grantmaker."

In other words, those listed on the site ("our donors") have made $2 billion in grants to over 56,000 charities. That Kingdom Hall listed is one of those "donors" who has made a "grant" to one or more of Fidelity's 56,000 charities throughout the U.S.

On closer examination (editing this post), I can see "During the 1999-2000 fiscal year, our donors supported the following list of organizations:" under which the Kingdom Hall is listed. Therefore, Seeker is correct that this site is simply a repository of recipients of people who use Fidelity to make their donation (i.e., to their Kingdom Hall in this case) in order to document their donation for tax purposes. This is likely done with larger dollar amounts. So we've come full circle, another "wild goose chase"! There is nothing here, it's an "empty hole."
