Here's to dreams....

In looking over some of my recent posts and PM's to several of you on here, I see, (and it's been pointed out to me) that my dreamy side may be taking over.

I write this not in a defensive mode but merely as a reflection on the matter.

You are right, so many of us (and all of us, at any given time in our lives) are suffering "tangible" problems.

My heart goes out to each and every one of you and I sincerly hope your situation will reverse itself or be resolved in a positive way in the very near future.

I am not a "total flake". I am actually pretty good to have around in a crisis. At the drop of a hat I can clean your entire house, cook a meal for 25 and change your colostomy bag. And I do it all with a smile on my face. So please don't write me off as useless.

But please, regardless of your current situation, don't forget to dream. And please, do whatever is nesessary to make those dreams come true.

After all, dreams come and go, but harsh reality is always here. If not for our dreams, we'd all be knee deep in shit.

This reminds me of a song in the movie South Pacific, sung by the "Bloody Mary" character.

It's a little funny, but it has a point.

Happy talk, keep talkin' happy talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do.
You got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream,
How you gonna have a dream come true?

Talk about the moon floatin' in the sky
    Lookin' at a lily on the lake;
Talk about a bird learnin' how to fly.
Makin' all the music he can make.

Happy talk, keep talkin' happy talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do.
You got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream,
How you gonna have a dream come true?

Talk about a star lookin' like a toy
    Peekin' through the branches of a tree;
Talk about the girl, talk about the boy
Countin' all the ripples on the sea.

Happy talk, keep talkin' happy talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do.
You got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream
How you gonna have a dream come true?

Talk about the boy sayin' to the girl:
"Golly, baby, I'm a lucky cuss"
Talk about the girl sayin' to the boy:
"You an' me is lucky to be us!"

Happy talk, keep talkin' happy talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do.
You got to have a dream,
If you don't have a dream
How you gonna have a dream come true?

    If you don't talk happy,
    And you never have dream,
Then you'll never have a dream come true!

    It's good idea, you like?

Keep dreaming. Sometimes it's all we have.

Dreams have always been a big part of my life. By this I mean that I often escaped into a world of make believe dream world as a child when the reality was too painful for me.

Like you Changeling, that doesn't mean that I am a complete air head. At a young age I was put in the role of carer to my sick mother and when she died I looked after the family while still goingto school.

My dreams have, at difficult times, been my refuge.

    Greetings Changeling,

Yes - dreams keep us sane. I relate to what you and Maddie said about being good in a crisis or even an everyday-needs situation. We dreamers are not total airheads. Some of my dreams regarding art and music have come to fruition and it wasn't necessarily to do with my putting money behind that dream. Outside help from generous and kind "patrons" has been the impetus behind my artistic goals.

Gopher: I just recently heard "Happy Talk" on NPR. I was actually moved by this jaunty little tune that years ago I deemed a silly song. My perspective has changed at this late date; you have reminded me that I have been meaning to rent the video of "South Pacific." Thanks for jogging my memory!

    Thank you again, Changeling.
