Golden Age Books is run by a JW family in the UK, selling "Books of interest to Jehovah's Witnesses and Kingdom Hall libraries."

The Autumn/Winter catalogue issued by Golden Age Books has this note on the inside front cover:

Our September KM Question Box caused much discussion on how it applied. We have decided to drop the Research Notes in case their purpose might be misunderstood. Also we would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that we too do not 'endorse' the books we sell. We have never sought or expected the Society's endorsement for any of the books we have published. We try to find the books we feel will be useful for our deeper research, and maintain a fairly rigorous minimum standard in stocking new books, and only offer secondhand ones I have read, used, or know about. Every book published by worldly writers is going to have something in it which does not have that 'ring of truth' for those of us with a good knowledge of the truth. When a book is quoted by the Society, that does not mean they endorse it. Even Vine's, so often used, has words like 'hell' which show religious bias, so we just have to ignore those parts. I have often been asked whether I thought it was a good idea to take classes to learn Hebrew or Greek, and I have always said 'no,' for we would never become expert enought to be an authority on those languages without using up much time, and when we have such an easy numbering system as Strong's, we can get 90% of what we want anyway. Yet all matters like this must be an individual decision we personally must choose to make. But the Society are concerned at the number of those using this means to criticize the New World Translation, or holding meetings to discuss seeming 'problems.' We do have to be very careful not to intrude on the prerogative of the Faithful and Discreet Slave to dispense spiritual food through its publications, but always be loyal, and just follow and recommend that, especially by our first always reading everything the Society provide. It is sad that some brothers don't even study their Watchtower properly for the meetings, as those of us on microphone duty often observe.

Wonder if they're feeling the heat? If so, how long will they be able to stay in business?

I think they, and most other JWs - perhaps deliberately - misunderstand the use of the word 'endorse' in the KM QB. When read in context, the article is not simply a statement informing JWs worldwide that certain groups are not 'endorsed', in other words 'not actively supported' by the WT; it rather brings across the meaning of not being approved, not being in accordance with the will of the WT. ("Does the FDS endorse? No, it does not. And yet...").

It's not like saying "I do not endorse the Red Cross, since I don't give them any money". It's more like saying "I do not endorse the Red Cross, since they have the word 'cross' in their name". There's a difference. One is 'support', the other is 'approve of'.

Wow even mic carriers are judgemental as to if you have studied or not...what a weird comment. Why is the website oldlighthousebooks cited instead of the one from the UK where the quote is from? I lighthouse ran by dubs?...thanks....oompa

Sorry for the confusion. Old Lighthouse Books is my own bookstore website. The Golden Age site is at www.goldenagebooks.co.uk.

They wrote of the "Society's endorsement". In my understanding, the "Society" is simply an apparatus created to satisfy the legal requirements of the State. There are several "Societies" around the world. Any endorsement of spiritual matters expressed in a book is done by the GB, not by any WTS.

They also wrote of "the prerogative of the Faithful and Discreet Slave to dispense spiritual food through its publications". The members of the FDS do not do anything of the sort. This is done by the Governing Body(not by the FDS). Just ask one of the "Anointed" in your country if they have expressed their spiritual thoughts in one of their own publications. Imagine what the GB would say and do!

    So in other words...

Because you other brothers are so slack and don't study the WT publications like you're supposed to, don't point fingers at us because we sell "worldly" books that aren't endorsed by the WTS.
