JWs aren't the only ones who do not 'celebrate' Halloween

Last night, while sitting outside - and helping hand out candy to all of the 'treeters who came up, my new mother-in-law was discussing how her sister and husband were going to their church for the Fall Harvest Festival.

    I said... "What's that?"

    She said, "Oh. It's like trick-or-treat - but they don't go door-to-door."

I asked, "Do they wear costumes?"

She said, "Oh yes! But not ghosts or monsters or other scary ones."

I said, "Oh. So... it's Halloween... but called something else."

    She said, "Yes. Pretty much."

I said, "Oh. Sorta like buying a turkey around Thanksgiving, and fixing it and eating on Thanksgiving Day - but it's not celebrating Thanksgiving. I understand."

...so JWs aren't the only ones who twist things and make things suit their own peculiar beliefs.

Here is a link to something that explains it better... and sounds eerily familiar.

Yep, several evangelical churches in the area here do the same thing. They also have flyers made up to hand out to the parents when the kids come to the door.

Yeah, we have a lot of TurboBaptists around here that think Haloween is evil, so what do they do? They have pumpkins and candy at the church and everybody dresses up and gets candy, except it's called a Fall Festival.

Kinda like having a douglas fir in your living room on December 25th and it has lights and stuff on it and there are boxes with ribbons underneath, but you just call it Tuesday.

A terd, if called by any other name, would smell just as sweet. You can't polish a terd.

But at least the children are allowed to have fun, something that was few and far between in the JW Cult.

There are many churches around here that do the same thing.

My cousins in Kentucky are ultra baptists, but they always allowed their children to trick or treat.

One of the FreeWill Baptist churches there sponsors a haunted trailer every year, LOL, I know, only in Kentucky.

    LOL @ Dorktacular!

No offense to Baptists in particular, I just thought putting "Turbo" in front of ANY religion is pretty doggone funny.

Our church does this every year, complete with a great spook alley. It's open to the public. The idea is to give the kids a safe place to come party, do trick or treating (classroom to classroom and car trunk to car trunk) in a safe environment where no kids will get kidnapped and nobody will get razor blades or other harmful things in their candy. The local hospital thanked the churches doing this so that the hospital x-ray isn't tied up all night checking out bags of candy from kids who went house to house.

A sad commentary on our modern world.
