A remarkable change is happening in American popular culture - and few people seem to be aware of
it. In fact, I am very surprized that it has gone on with no particular protest - or even comment. Now,
the Watchtower claims to be far sighted and empowered to warn about such matters - but are
apparently as blind and dumb ( especially dumb) as the rest. What am I referring to?
The emergence of Jesus Christ as an imaginary figure and object of satire on television.
South Park features Jesus as a regular character - often pathetic, and about as real as Santa Claus.
Adult Swim ( Cartoon Network) treats him as a figure of fun as does Family Guy in lampooning
his miracles ...... and where is the protest?
Put a nipple on broadcast TV or a naked derriere - or say one bad word and people have a stroke,
yet this satirical view of Jesus continues. You must understand that , only a few years ago, such a
thing was unthinkable. Even pregnancy was unspeakable ( "I Love Lucy")
I notice that the Awake defends Bible authenticity on the basis that "Jesus said so" in regard to
ancient Old Testament accounts. I don't think such illogical appeals are going to work much longer
when popular culture is associating Jesus with leprechans and Care Bears. The bozos who run the
organization are utterly clueless - and their next generation of Witnesses is going, going....soon to
be gone.
As for my own view, I am not sure that we are culturally ready for a complete loss of Christian
culture ( however loosely that might be defined). Oddly enough, even "South Park" might agree
with me!
