Need help with Xmas presents for my kids

I have four sons and a daughter. This year I am going to give them a present at Christmas. I have given them something around Christmas before, not wrapped or with a Merry Christmas with it. This year I want to do it differently

I have not given them anything for x-mas since they were very young, before the truth.

Ususally when I give presents, I get something and then see something better and get that. I want to give everything!!!

OK, I don't have much money this year, but I do have time, so I thought of drawing them something. It seems a bit silly as none of them are married or have their own homes as of yet.

So it would be something they would need to save, keep up with it, you know.

I wanted to draw something with their names on it, and then have it framed.

It seems so impractical. It would be something they would appreciate in the years to come.

They probably rather have powertool of some sort. Or something for hunting or four-wheeling.

I just can't get them what I think they would really like and want.

Do I explain why I am doing this, this year? Do I make some sort of statement?

I like you idea, but I don't know your kids. The boys especially may not "get it".

That being said, If you do it from the heart and pour yourself into it, years down the line they will treasure it.

Maybe you could add a little something personal in each picture: Ex. if one of the boys likes to fish, make the squiggles on his picture look like fish.

And put them all in a different frame.

    Good luck and have fun,

so I thought of drawing them something

My daughter is into horses. Her Aunt drew her a beautiful, black/grey pencil drawing of a horse, and put it in a black frame. My daughter loved it, and it's been in her room ever since. Best of all, it wasn't "Made in China" and have lead paint! (only graphite)

Pay attention to anything they say about things they would buy for themselves "if I could justify spending the money." Or look at their possessions and note whatever's jury-rigged, falling apart, etc.

Buy whatever-it-is and personalize that with your own unique artwork. Paint, carve, whatever.

I worked up a scrapbook for my teenage niece and the year just before that I maed her a photo album. I put things in there that I knew she would find interesting and didn't cost much of anything. Photo's of her, her mom, us, pets - some postcards, pics of some of the wild animals I see - including a dried leaf, a feather that came from one of the birds etc. You can also do the same thing with a photo frame kind of like a collage - photo's with a kiss imprint and lock of hair - that sort of thing. It's something they can take with them wherever they live and a way to create a memory. I kept cards for 30 years that were given to me from family and now I have a memory in handwriting from those special people passed on and that means a lot to me. sammieswife.

I have a set of paper dolls my grandma made me in the 70's. She drew every outfit, different hairstyles, everything. We also have sketches she did of us as kids, as well as several oils her and her dad did. My daughter has a half done oil painting, Grandma died before she could finish it. When she died people asked for paintings she had done that were still on the wall. They give us a little bit of her, and a peek deep inside her soul. They keep us close to her. When we moved last year, her pictures were the first I hung.

As you can tell, I say do it. A little bit of you will go into every stroke. They may not appreciate it right off, depending on their ages. But they will eventually.
