    From a respected friend.

    Remembrance Or Not

Shall we remember what war is?

    What is war?
    In the human psyche
    it is the fatal flaw
a perversion of the human mind,
using our greatest brains to create
    a threat to all mankind.

    War is
    the profoundest disrespect
    for the sanctity
    of human life,
    the ultimate in racism,
    the collapse of morality.

    War is
    the ultimate in criminality,
    the ultimate obscenity,
    the ultimate crime against humanity.

    So shall we honour war?
and shall we now praise broken men?
Or shall we remember what war is
    and give true meaning
    to "Never Again"?

While I do disagree with the mentality held by the few: 'kill 'em all and let god sort 'em out'. . .

I don't believe that moral people can stand by while the lives, livelihoods, peace and interests of innocent people are taken or even threatened. . .

No more than a moral, even god-fearing (where that counts) police officer can stand by and do nothing when the same happens at street level, fearing that his 'violence' toward a criminal would be counted against him/her as obscene, criminal, racist, immoral, perverted in mind, or accused of having disrespect for the sanctity of life.

Thank and Remember our Veterans, Active and Reserve Military Personnel, Police, Fire and every Civil Servant who has Sacrificed His or Her Life, Time, Freedom and Health-mental and physical, for the peace that we enjoy.

    Which veterans?

    From which country?

    The "right" one?

    Or the "right" ones?

    The Yankees?

    The Confederates?

    The invaders?

    The invaded?

    The Christians?

    The Islamists?

    The Zionists?

    The godly?

    The godless?

I believe that is the American Vets, not commuhnist chinese, russian communist, somalian warlords, etc. Just us plain ole American vets.

Spit couldn't agree more with you. War is a bitch been there done that but is a necessary "evil" at times.

Gee did I just join the 700 club????

So only American lives are meaningful?

    Is that your final answer?

What about the Russians that were allied with the US?

What about the Afghanis that the US supported against the Russians?

What about the British that were US allies?

What about the British that fought against American independence?

What about the Panamians that the US supported?

What about the Panamanians that the US killed?

And on and on and on.

It starts to get messy, doesn't it?

FYI, my grandfather fought in two world wars, received medals, and he's not an american. And many of those chinese, russians etc., lost their loved ones who were following their orders as well. Who are you to suggest their lives had no meaning because they happened to be on the "wrong side"? Newsflash- "the plain ole American vets" have been guilty of just as many crimes and atrocities as any other nation you speak of. Don't believe it? Bury your head in the sand if you wish.

Heavens no. NVR makes a good point: that at one point in history, US allies were US enemies, and this is true of other countries. And while taking into consideration that we have members here of all nations, every nation has had it's battles, every nation maintains military might to the best of its ability and budget for a reason--sometimes that reason is for it's own protection and it's own interests and sometimes for others' lives and interests.

Without this fact, there'd still be Jews in concentration camps in Europe, every Pacific Island would be 'enemy territory' including Hawaii, we would have shitty American made TVs & VCRs and Toyota wouldn't have the largest truck plant in the USA. Really, does anyone here NOT think that USA-led UN forces should have 'restructured' Rwanda when 100's of thousands were being slaughtered in the 90's? In just 5 months up to 600,000 were murdered, shouldn't 'we', a Superpower, have acted? Would that have offended anyone? Yet, the acting goverment used its own Rwandan military to organize and carry out this mess.

I don't believe that anyone here is naive enough to believe that there's never been an immoral or criminal act committed by those on a military offensive.
