As an active JW I remember hearing that individuals who chose to marry would have "tribulation in the flesh". What exactly is the JW interpretation of that phrase? It always had an eerie, vague explanation that never really made sense to me. Any ideas? |

Anything that can be unpleasant, or perceived as such, about the marital arrangement.
It's a classic umbrella phrase.

LOL, Eclypse is probably closer than you know.
Must mean a distraction from spiritual focus.

Umbrella phrase ... okay, I suppose it joins the ranks of all the other unverifiable, indiscernible principles.Anything that can be unpleasant, or perceived as such, about the marital arrangement.

They explained it as being divided in your affections to please your spouse rather than God. It really meant that you might take some time away from serving the WBTS and enjoy the natural joys of marriage and family relationships.
What eclipse said is probably the real tribulations.

It means no matter what the husband does for his wife, she will never be happy.
She leaves him hoping to find happiness and her lfe gets more screwed up, thus the tribulation in the flesh..

I guess that wouldn't apply if you're married to the Stepford-Wife-JW-drone type right? -
