I have a question for anyone who can help me. I found a wooden casket in the water i opened it and several notes and some sort of biological remains inside. The casket was only 12"x10". The notes were in spanish. I found a man whos name was in the notes and he said that he was a JW and that he had sacrificed a chicken and put it in the casket with money because something bad had happened to him. Is this for real? Is that a custom/belief of JW? Someone please let me know. This is no joke

Sounds like a superstition. Some religious/cultural beliefs are that weird.

Thanks. Someone on another topic said Santaria?

Welcome to the board.
Witnesses are not to engage in animal sacrifice. If the person really is a JW, sacrificing a chicken would be considered a superstition and he would be in trouble if the elders in his congregation were to find out.

Well I thought I posted that it sounded like a JW urban legend.
IE a story they tell to frighten the kiddies

It could have been someone who was exposed to Jehovah's Witnesses but didin't understand or know all of their teachings.

I'm going to second LoverofTruth's notion. Some people who study with JWs start calling themselves Witnesses because they don't know how to describe their religious affiliation any other way. I remember watching a talk show where a woman with a big cross hanging off her neck was calling herself a Jehovah's Witness as well. I'm guessing this guy studied for a little while, lost touch for whatever reason, and probably mixed his own traditional beliefs with Watchtower teachings, and viola! dead chicken.

I remember after my first study with a jw, I still don't know how to pray to the bible god.I was only 15 yo and
I needed money to go out with my friends that weekend.u know what I do? I placed the bible verticle on my desk. Light 3 joss-sticks in front of it and pray to the bible god to
help strike the lottery. I even promised to buy a chicken for him if I really strike the lottery! I was
studying the bible with jw. so i am a jw....but the bible god didn't answer my prayer...so no chicken for him!
Now I am also in need of money, maybe I should try again. Jesus say 'keep on asking...keep on knocking...'

By any chance, were you in Ocean City, Maryland on November 17th? There is an article about this experience on WBOC news internet site. It was an Elsalvadorian man who wanted good luck and prosperiety for his family. After forensics were done examining it, they said they found no human remains inside. It was baked chicken that was found. The cops are not charging him with anything at all. Check out wboc.com for the story.
