A question for lurking Witnesses.....

If the WTS is based on the Bible (as they claim), then why can't a person come into "the truth" just by reading the Bible?

Also, if the WTS really does have "the truth", then why does it keep changing it? I didn't think truth could change! If a Witness reads Charles Russell's books and believes what he taught, this person would be disfellowshipped and labeled a "heretic".

The WTS claims that in 1919 God choose it to be His "faithful and discret slave". Yet just about everything practiced and taught at that time has been condemned and considered "pagan" by the Society. So, why would God choose the WTS as His "True Channel" since they had so many "pagan" teachings??

It's a nice approach, but honestly, not worth the effort. Witnesses are programmed to block out the logic of these questions. The way their own history is presented to individual members is done so in a way to remove the significance of these things. These poor souls need our prayers and support, but unfortunately, Satan has "blinded their minds". - 2 Cor. 4:4

Good point but they have their authority and that is who tell them what is true and what isn't. To them you are a mislead that all there is to it. Until one day they hit a wall they get back up proceed on and hit it again and again till they are forced to amit something is wrong.

For that line of argument, I thought you said it nice and simple: to the point. But he's right that most JWs would not heed it much. I dissagree however, that "its not worth it", I think every valid reasoning in tandem with other ideas leads to a sum that is worth it. Jws are like onions and ogres-they all have layers, and when up against those odds, any tool is useful.

I agree, darkuncle. Every falsehood about the WTS that we can bring up will hopefully create doubts. Doubts that will eventually open their eyes, and lead them OUT.

lavender, nice questions. JWs always will remind you of "proper food at the proper time" and "new light" and all sorts of other nonsense. I think though that darkunc has a point. Eventually things will add up and hopefully can start to sink in.

    Thanks,

Yeah you guys are right. Every little bit helps. I just think that a lot of it is up to them to have an objective attitude and to hold the organization to the same standards that they hold the "wicked world" to.

And you are absolutely right, deaconbluez, that they need our prayers and support. For a "praying person", this is the most powerful "weapon". :o)
