Snopes did a good job discussing the rumors surronding the film:

What year is this again? What century are we living in?

Don't these people know any history? Don't they know that book banning and burning is a sign a feeble, fearful, ignorant mind trying to imprison other minds?

This kind of thing makes my blood boil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give in to the demands of self-righteous "Christian" soccer moms.

    Haha.

I should point out that it was only one school district that pulled the book and it was a Catholic School District. Private religious schools can pull books that are offensive to their belief structures if they want. Personally I prefer a school that teaches children how to think, not what to think.

I hate seeing books taken off library shelves, although I understand a Catholic school can do what it wants.

Funny story that goes around in English teacher circles.

On the first day of a class on Chaucer the prof announces (to groans) that they will read all of the stories in both original language and an updated version, except for the Miller's Tale which is "simply to risque to discuss in class."

At the next class the prof walks in and tells them they will be discussing the Miller's Tale - which they have all read.

Moral: the best way to get a high school or college age kid to read something is to forbid it.
