"I want a hippopotamus for Christmas... ...we experience joy beyond compare....." GOOD GRIEF!!!
In the service of our God Jehovah...we have joys that are beyond compare...
Yes, the first refrain is the same!
What song is #72? It's been years since I've seen a songbook.
edited to add: Nevermind, I see from the above posts. Yep, perhaps someone "in" can sing these words instead next time it's played in the KH.
Do think someone with a goofy sense of humor did that on purpose? The hippo song dates from 1953. I want to say the KM was from the "purple song book" that came out in the 70's.
I think the hippo song is adorable. We heard it for the first time on the radio today.

I think there is a more blatant conspiracy with the Kingdumb Maladies. Notice the common themes. Door to door. Because I want to. Dedication and baptism a must. We clean up our lives. He says "Use the rod". The common thread is some aspect of the cult is highlighted by each song. When put together, you have the complete cult beliefs. Which is why they want people to listen to the sxxx all the time in lieu of real music, because it helps indoctrinate people.
There is no doubt that music is effective tool in indoctrination of ideas. I'm going to be the first to Godwin this thread by bringing up Nazi Germany and the way the government used powerful music.
My seven year old has been carrying a cd to school for the last two weeks that my wife burned for her of 'I want a hippopotamus for Christmas' in hopes that she will be able to karaoke sing it during music class. She wants me to pop it in the cd player everytime I pick her up from school so she can practice it until its her turn.
But, hey thanks for getting the song back into my brain. Now I have to come up with a counter song to get it out.
"Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh, o'er the hill we go, laughing all the way ha hah ha."
Much better.
In the old songbook there was a song with exactly the same melody as a christmas carol. Before the LP and cassettes with the KMs came, there cong. were accompanied by live music by some of the members that knew how to play an instrument. E.g. piano and violin. One old man, the violin player, totally refused to play this song, because _he_ would definitely not play any christmas carol
In the newest songbook there is a song which beginning is exactly the same as that of a popular Norwegian childrens' song. At least the first ten (I think) notes of the first line, and the same on the second line are the same. Only the last four notes on each line are different.
I remember more than one time, almost the whole cong. singing the first line of this song, and continue in the melody of the childrens' song So funny, and almost the whole cong. laughed though the rest of the song, trying to concentrate on singing the right melody.
I couldn't find my songbook here at the moment (only the CDs), so I can't tell which Kingdom Melody it is. But the childrens' song, "I bakvendtland" by Alf Prøysen , you can listen to here:

In English the name of the song is "in the back-to-front country" or something. Katia Cardinal from Nicaragua has done a spanish version: "En reverslandia"

There are a lot of songs in the KM that I recognize from songs outside of the WT.
