I'm working on a paper for my college writing class about JWs and blood transfusions. I need information documenting situations where JWs have removed children from hospitals to avoid forced transfusions. The best sources would be from the WT or Awake, but other news sources would be great as well. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think Paul Blizard and his wife were jws their elders wanted them to do that.

In the meantime, friends contacted the local elders, who promptly came to visit us. They were relieved to find out that there was still time to plan a way to kidnap Jenny out of the hospital before blood could be administered.

I explained to them that the matter was out of my hands and that I was under court order not to remove Jenny. That did not matter to them. Their main concern was to get her out.

I knew that Jenny would shortly die if I removed her from the machines that were keeping her alive, and I would be charged with murder. I explained this to the elders. They replied, "That's the chance you have to take! You cannot allow them to give your child blood!"

Without further discussion, I asked them to leave, stating that we could not allow our child to die in this way. "If this is the God I serve, I am through with Him."

The elders left the hospital angry that we would not submit to their demands "I hope," one elder even said, "she gets hepatitis from that blood, just to prove that it's bad!"

    Cabasilas:

Transfer--Remove--Took--Take every step possible--Are these Watchtower words for kidnap?

Watchtower-1973-September-1-p.544 (Transfer? Remove? Took? Are these Watchtower words for Kidnap?) In a number of cases Jehovah’s Christian witnesses, when faced with the possibility of a court order for transfusion, have taken steps to avoid breaking God’s law. Some have been able totransfertheir family members or relatives to other hospitals, where treatment that did not violate God’s law was administered. Should the condition of the patient be so critical as to make survival a virtual impossibility were he removed from the hospital for even a brief period, this avenue would manifestly be closed. Of course, in some cases a person may have exhausted all mental and physical means to prevent such violation of God’s law; he may even be unconscious. If, despite his every effort, a transfusion is forced on him, he must leave the matter in Jehovah’s hands, trusting in his mercy. His position in this case is comparable to that of a woman who may be raped despite her continuous screams and physical efforts to resist her assailant. According to the Mosaic law, such a woman was guiltless. (Deut. 22:25-27) However, if she failed to scream, she was not blameless. (Deut. 22:23, 24) Accordingly, God would expect Christians today to take every step possible (that is not contrary to God’s Word) in order to avoid being party to a violation of His law on blood. In an interview with The Telegram on April 3, he recounted another case involving a child of Jehovah’s witnesses, “suffering from leukemia. Before the doctor gave a transfusion its parents came to Kingston Hospital and took the child. Toronto doctors decided to abide by the wishes of the parents against a transfusion and ironically,” said Dr. Delahaye, “the child survived.” Ironically, so did the DeWaal baby. Ironically, so has every other infant of Jehovah's witnesses that has been removedfrom a hospital to avoid exchange transfusion." IN A Middle Eastern country, a father was fixing a flat tire beside the road when a car hit his four-year-old son and then sped away. With the injured child on the mother’s lap, the father headed for the nearest hospital only to be directed to another hospital 16 miles [25 km] away. The doctor decided that the boy had internal bleeding and that he needed an operation and a blood transfusion. Eight other doctors agreed. Knowing God’s law against blood transfusions, the parents refused. “You have only five minutes to decide or else we will not touch your child even if you agree to a blood transfusion afterward,” threatened the doctor. In the meantime, the child’s stomach continued to swell and was reaching a dangerous state. The father’s fleshly brother, not in the truth, put pressure on the father to permit a blood transfusion. He even said: “Please consider this boy not yours but mine. Since your conscience is bothering you, I will bear the responsibility, including the hospital cost, to give the child the needed blood. This is your only son.” The pressure was hard to bear, but the parents were firm in their decision. They took the boy and left, looking for a certain hospital, but they lost their way. By chance they saw the sign of another hospital, and they went to it, although it was not the one they were looking for. After seeing the boy, the doctor said: “The swelling of the child’s stomach may or may not be a sign of internal bleeding. Let the boy sleep, and tomorrow we will make the necessary examinations to find out.” The examinations showed that there was no bleeding, but the swelling was due to the accident. There was no need for an operation. In fact, the doctor said that an operation could have been very dangerous. “Thanks to Jehovah,” said the parents, “for the safety of our son and for directing us to the right hospital and to the right doctor.” Scan: http://www.imagger.com/view/890345_scan-30001.jpg.html N.

    Cabasilas,

It might be worth getting in touch with Lori MacGreogor because I remember seeing one of her videos where they staged such a "rescue"... it may well have been based on fact.

LAWRENCE'S STORY: Lawrence Hughes, a 55-year-old Calgary architectural technician, dates his loss of faith as a Witness almost to the day his 16-year-old daughter Bethany was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. It was late afternoon, Feb. 13, 2002. "We were told then by the local hospital liaison of Jehovah's Witness that the Watch Tower Society had already dispatched lawyers, they're on their way to Calgary to represent us. Shane Brady was one of them." He imagines the pressure on the B.C. parents. "They're in a dilemma," he says quietly. He remembers Witnesses standing guard in shifts in his daughter's hospital room, choking the corridor, pressing religious tracts on the family. Hughes says Watch Tower representatives promised Bethany her resistance would be celebrated in the church publication Awake! That magazine, in the mid-1990s, fed a thirst for martyrdom with a cover showing the smiling photos of 26 "Youths Who Put God first," by dying after refusing treatment.

did the borg keep their promise and make an article of bethany?
