My son is driving across country and I think a GPS for driving would be a good xmas present. Should I go with a Magellan / Tom Tom / or the one that starts with G?

    Needed for driving

    Thanks folks!

Garmin seems to be the overall "name" in GPS. Personally, I would not spend over $200 for a unit.

If he has a lap top, you can get map soft ware and an antenna. Of course a cheap 12 volt to 110 volt converter is handy so the lap top has power. I have a kit from a company that starts with a D and is located in Maine. The moving map is far superior than any hand held unit.

I am only familiar with Garmin and they are very good.

I tried a laptop once, but it was too much of a distraction on the road. Great for the boat though. Get a really good quality 12-110v inverter or you run the risk of cooking your laptop.

    Cheers

Sam's Club had them for $127 and this was the last one out of the box, so they put in back in the box for $99
