My sis, my only remaining sibling, and I were discussing over lunch yesterday her 'secret' beliefs till now. She has become a believer in spirits and afterlife, spirits that can and are contacted by the living. Not a Christian perspective, but a mystical one. Part of our discussion was about her opinion that she may have 'undeveloped' psychic ability. I asked her why she thought so.

She stated that she had had some dreams and other 'feelings' that she believed could not be explained in any other way. I relate a couple of them here.

She said that during her daughter's college years, she was home for a week. My sister was sleeping when she was awakened by her daughter standing in the doorway in her pajamas and stating that she was cold and could she get in bed with my sister. She told her of course she could, and her daughter came into bed with her, my sister turned over and looked at the nightstand clock which said 6:30. She closed her eyes and went to sleep. Some time went by and she awoke later to the sound of her daughter's voice, asking the same questions. My sister responded annoyed this time, that we have already had this conversation. She opened her eyes and the same scene repeated, her daughter in the same pajamas, in the same pose in the doorway. My sis turned over and looked at the clock which read the precise 6:30 that she has seen what seemed like hours earlier. Her daughter insisted that was the first time she had been in the bedroom, and the first time she had asked the question.

I asked her - "Could it be that the event actually preceded the dream, but in the fog of sleepiness, her mind had turned it around as if the dream preceded the event?" She said that was impossible, for right after the event, which scared her, she and her daughter stayed awake till daylight and beyond discussing the matter.

In another more recent event, she stated that she was sitting at home on her day off, and kept bursting into tears without reason. She kept having thoughts of her former boss when these events occurred. Then late in the evening, her former boss called her. My sister asked her if something was bothering her, that she sounded on the phone as if she had been crying. She told my sister that she had been informed that her FIL was terminal with cancer, and that her husband did not know yet, as he was studying for a job promotion that she dared not call and inform him until he returned home. So she had been struggling all day with being the sole one with this information. She had been breaking out in tears all day. She had tried to call my sister about a business matter on several occasions, but had hung up before the phone was answered due to being so broken up that she did not want to talk. She had resolved to say nothing about the matter when she finally got control of herself enough to complete the call. Then they realized that her sobbing correlated with my sister's own.

I am unable to find a 'logical' explanation of these events. These were just a few of the things she told me.

I believe that there are things we don't know about, some things maybe we have a closed mind to, some that we just don't understand, as far as things like ghosts and such, I think about this all over the world and through time, and cultures the belief in a spirit world has been present. There has to be something to it more than we could ever explain. A few years ago, while on our honeymoon, my wife and I were staying in a hotel near Niagara Falls, I was in the restroom and she was laying in bed, with her back to the room, she thought I walked over and sat next to her she turned over to talk to me and there was no one there, she started freaking out. I told her she might have imagined it or been falling asleep she swears that she felt the bed go down and heard footsteps to the bed and could feel that I was there. The next night we both were awaken to the sound of someone in our room I jumped out of bed and hit the lights but no one was there I was expecting to find someone at the foot of our bed

The first instance was that dream state or half-asleep stage where she felt that it had happened
once before she was awake, not a big deal.

The second instance was hormones or whatever, she was thinking of several different things,
and one of those things she thought of was her boss. Had it been her co-worker in a car accident,
she would have said she had been thinking of her. Had it been you, Jeff, that broke your arm at
work, she would have said she was thinking of you. Sorry to sound like a skeptic, but you did
ask for thoughts. She's not lying- she's just a believer.

I had a friend who believed in dreams so powerfully. Whenever something happened in a dream,
she would find the live event that matched somewhat and go, "See, it's true."
She might have had a dream about an airplane crash, then an airplane crash happened somewhere
in the world within a week, but she knew nobody on the plane, "See, it's true." It could have
been a car crash, then cousin Jimmy would have a fender bender, "See, it's true." The dream might
have been about a dog, then if anyone got bit, acquired a puppy, had a dog die or get sick, lost their
dog, kicked a dog, etc. etc. "See, it's true."

I am not promoting the idea that she is correct in her belief in this matter. I have just found it interesting and thought I would share.

I am pretty skeptical myself on many levels. I do believe there might be a lot that we can't explain, and it might include afterlife or spirits. Just not sure.

    1) Dejavu - compounded by just waking

    2) They're on the same 'womens cycle'

I'm not saying these things don't happen. Just that these specific stories can be easily explained.

I have seen things that are pretty hard to explain. Who knows. No one does really. There is no definitive truth out there. I kinda like the zen approach that if you are so sure one way or the other you are wrong or that truth is like water hard to hold and if you do it is only for a second. If it makes her happy have her investigate it further.

I cannot attribute it to morning sleepiness. She swears that she woke to an identical occurrence to that which she had apparently just dreamt. Her daughter looked the same and stated the same words, and it was the same time. She was so bothered by it that she told her to quit asking for the same thing. Her daughter knew she hadn't asked it before. Sis was so bothered that she could not then go to sleep.

As far as DeJa vu is concerned, that opens another can of spiritual worms doesn't it?
