Greensleeves
Christmas version is "What Child is This?" I think.
Beautiful versions on You Tube - check them out.
Possibly written by Henry VIII
Thanks guys. It's pretty difficult to search for the title of a song when you only know the tune....
Hey, there are some really nice versions here: http://www.musicforcandles.com/movies/Greensleeves.mp3
A different version here: http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/mirror/remix.kwed.org/Bart%20Klepka%20-%20Greensleeves%20(Spherical%20Mix).mp3
And a rock version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjA5faZF1A8 ()
And here's one with the actual lyrics: http://www.coqgaulois.com/mp3/Greensleeves.mp3
Lore - w.w.s.d?
Greensleeves was done by many artists. Here are some-Buddy Rich, Liberace, Mozart,Acker Bilk, James Last,Kenny G, Roger Whittaker, Moody Blues, Mannheim Steamroller, Hoyt Axton, Zamfir, Floyd Cramer, and even some famous rock bands.
Greensleeves is my favorite melody. It has played in my mind since I was a little girl. It is the longest running (for lack of a better term) song in history. Written in the 1500's. Look for a version by Lorrena McKinnet. Beautiful.
Do you know at least some of the words? If you know several contiguous words of your song, I found a site at www.allbutforgottenoldies.net that you might want to research. You can look through various features of the web site and click the link closest to your situation. For best results, you should know at least four contiguous words that are not common to most songs. The link will ask you to type it into a Google search engine, which will give you the choices. If you type it into the blank where it says "Exact phrase", you are more likely to get narrowed down to the correct answers.
The site is totally free, and you can use it an unlimited number of times. That will help you a lot if you have several other songs that you can think of some of the words but not the title and artist. Feel free to browse the site until you find all the songs you are looking for. Once you find the title and artist, it is much easier to find other trivia about it (what album it's on, when it came out, chart positions if any, etc.) and then download it if it's available.
