new thoughts of how you make no sense!

Dad, I was at watchtower.org today after talking with WIFE about trying to understand God and how Holy Sprit works...which I have been unable to do for a long time. The first two pages were about the subject below, and included similar questions about why man-caused tragedies occurred. I mean this is probably the most common question of all mankind. What is interesting is that NEITHER article gives ANY answer at all to the questions posed about why God allows natural disasters except where underlined, and that seems to be only about man-caused tragedies, not natural. Since these questions seem to involve the universal issue of Gods Sovereignty, which is really about whether man would worship God willingly or not, why would God allow such unbelievable tragedies as floods, tsunamis, etc. that cause countless millions such grief? If the issue is about mans inability to rule himself and whether he is better off being ruled by God, why not control nature to alleviate suffering, since Satan and Man-rule causes so many problem all by themselves, but don't create natural disasters? If God had never allowed natural disasters, how could it "cloud the issue" or "be an injustice" since man would have never known about it anyway? By the way, I don't understand printing questions and then not answering them! I have never liked disasters of course, but had never really thought about this aspect of why things are they way they are until reading these two articles. Your thoughts please.....OOMPA

    The Hardest Question

“W HY?” It is tragic to see how much anguish and pain can be packed into that simple word. People often ask that question after disaster or tragedy strikes: A hurricane sweeps through a region, leaving death and destruction in its wake. An earthquake reduces a city to rubble.

Still, some may ask, ‘Why has God not prevented tragedies?’ Really, that would be an injustice, and it would cloud the issue by making it seem that rebelling against God is without consequence.Hence, Jehovah has not been behind the scenes preventing all the crimes and tragedies that result, directly or indirectly, from disobedience to him.* Jehovah would never be party to the harmful lie that Satan’s system can succeed, that it has found the key to happiness! Nevertheless, Jehovah has not been indifferent to events. In fact, he has been very active, as we shall now see.

Does the Bible teach that God is behind the natural disasters we see today? Not at all! God’s judgments as described in the Bible are quite different from natural disasters. For one thing, God is selective; he reads the hearts of individuals and destroys only those he deems wicked. ( Genesis 18:23-32 ) Furthermore, God sends warnings first, thereby giving the righteous opportunity to escape.

Natural disasters, on the other hand, strike with little or no warning, and they kill and maim indiscriminately. To some extent, mankind has made such disasters worse by damaging the natural environment and by building in areas prone to earthquakes, floods, and extreme weather

It is a very good thread, oompa. It is just so self-contained and clear-cut, there is nothing else to say but:

I guess that the STANDARD JW answer would be that man and his environment are deeply interconnected and that when man "sinned", not only did it cock it for all mankind, but that it let evil into the system and thereby messed with nature too...

...as messed up nature is a result of man using his free will (in the original sin), then God will not intervene.

Before anyone jumps on me, I do not accept this view (my own views are in a real spin at the moment anyway) but I am just trying to work out what a JW would answer.

‘Why has God not prevented tragedies?’ Really, that would be an injustice, and it would cloud the issue by making it seem that rebelling against God is without consequence.Hence, Jehovah has not been behind the scenes preventing all the crimes and tragedies that result, directly or indirectly, from disobedience to him.*

But when humans actually seem to be doing pretty well on their own, what does Jehovah do? He floods the entire planet except for a handful of people drowning men women and children indiscriminately. A few generations later, humans are again doing really well on their own and Jehovah doesn't like it so he confuses their languages, forcing them to disperse. He destroys whole cities because they disobey his rules, even though he is a god they have never heard of - no doubt as a result of the linguistic mess he created. He wipes out nations because they happen to be living in land he's promised to his chosen people - a people whom he repeatedly punishes in macabre ways for any infractions. And that's just the first few pages of the bible!

In the wacky JW world, the whole world is being run as a bet between Jehovah and Satan to see how humans will do when left to their own devices. But whenever they are doing well, God pulls the rug from under them. He even tried directly ruling a group of people for a while, and failed spectacularly. Those who never heard of him did much better. And when the day of reckoning comes and Satan is judged to have won by a ratio of about 1000 to 1, will Jehovah concede? Will he hell! He'll destroy everyone who didn't follow him and declare himself the winner like the monstrous bully that he is.

So for the Watchtower to suggest that preventing the earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and so on that threaten human life as a result of Jehovah's poor design would be an injustice, is a mind-boggling piece of nonsense. Their ridiculous theology doesn't stand up to any scrutiny which is, of course, why they punish so harshly those who ask questions about it.

The problem that i have found with discussions with family is that they do not want to believe anything else, so dismiss everything, no matter how logical. It has made me very disappointed with the integrity of my family, so I think it better not to even talk about it.

    Dear OOmpa and dad,

Go to the ant, you lazy bugger and consider its ways. It gathers its food in summer to carry it thru the winter storms.

By the way, I don't understand printing questions and then not answering them!

If you want to buy a pick and shovel don’t try and shop for them in a drug store. Go to the hardware store. Change psychiatrists, change your window cleaners so you can see more clearly.

Go to Ma Nature and listen to her ways.

You and your ilk build houses on flood plains. On rainy mountain slopes. Speed on highways. Screw around and spread diseases. Eat junk food. Play king of the castle and then cry like a baby when you are the loser. Do get the picture?

Even animals know how to escape danger, who said you are more important than them and demand special treatment.

    Any way, I gotta go.

    Best Regards,
    Wholly Gawd and Sons, Inc.
