Well I might have mentioned some of this already, but I've kept it mostly a secret until now.
Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa spearheaded an investigation into six TV minisries. He is trying to uncover fraud and change the way that non-profit organizations report earnings and expenditures.
I called up Washington and left several messages with the investigation committee, however making contact was hard, due to my work schedule.
Finally almost 2 weeks ago I received a phone call from the investigation committee.
I spoke for about 10 minutes and let them know about a few possible concerns with the Watchtower's finances. I stayed on topic and gave them a few tidbits to chew on.
The investigator agreed with several points that I had made, thanked me for my time, and said that right now they are mainly focusing on those 6 ministries, however their main goal is for all non-profits to show more accountablity in their spending and income reporting. They are looking to reform the rules regarding non-profit's.
I havent spoken with Senator Grassley yet, but I may try again in the next few days.
I also have a very remote chance to speak with someone higher up in the IRS, it seems there might be a connection that I can make with this person.
Anyway, that's all the big activism news I can share right now.
Update on Senator Grassley

That's good news. We appreciate your efforts. The WTS has to begin to show some accountability.

I think you're non-report of your non-news was most non-informative, Dave.
Is corruption in religious organizations something new?
Yet there are thousands of religions, all claiming to be the true one.
They all take money in exchange for telling people something that makes them feel better.
Are you going bring them all down?
What weakens the grip of religion's power is knowledge.
Inform yourself and you'll be in a better position to help "bring down" not only the Watchtower, but all the religions that spread lies and slow human ascent.

I would expect nothing less from you Nvrgnbk.
Thanks DT
Purplesofa, I may have already mentioned this in an earlier posting, but I was more vague about it. I let a couple of weeks pass before I mentioned it further. -

That's great news, JunctionGuy.
I've been without a keyboard for the past 2 weeks, so I haven't been very active on JWD.
I applaud your efforts to expose the WTS - whatever form it may take.
I'm firmly convinced that we should do what works best for us individually.
Thanks for the update.

There are many non-profit orgs out there, some actually help people, some are just frauds (WTS), I as a tax paying citizen feel they shouldnt be given tax exempt status if they are going to misrepresent where the money is going.
Although I dont plan on taking on any other group, I do feel that the playing field should be fair, and that these non-profit orgs should be held accountable to the very people they claim to serve. -
