I wish there was a way to do polls on this forum! They are so much fun on the other forums I go on. Can you IMAGINE minimus if he could start POLLS?!

Ok here's my question. Have you EVER been or HEARD of anyone who got a "good witness" from some jack ass DYING from refusing a blood transfusion?

Every time I here "little bobbie died of a paper cut cause he wouldn't get a blood transfusion, he gave SUCH a good witness to the hospital staff, they were SOOOOO impressed with his faithfulness to jehovah..." It drives me juuuuuuuust a little bit crazier!

I've been all over the medical field, first as an EMT/firefighter now as a sitter and soon too be an RN... (And I once worked at a tattoo parlor!) I've pretty much found that their stand on blood makes every sane person who hears about it want to stab them in the eye with the closest steak knife! I mean hell we KNOW they won't take blood and we hate to not allow them to give a good witness by dying faithful!

So have ANY of you in the medical profession EVERY heard of ANYONE in the field who was impressed by this crap?

WTG on your decision to become a RN! (don't forget to consider BSN later for extra $$$)

Yes, avid JW medical personnel/ hosp staff

I would like to state that I have seen JW hosp. staff try to comfort, support, and oft time pray with the patient and families too.

Beyond this, all us other JWs shrink back and hope we are not asked to "clarify" once again "WHY IN THE HELL?"

Actually I speak to LVN/ RN/ BSN students about ways to convince a dying patient/ family to accept blood/ blood products banned by the WTS. (Speaking before the HLC arrives is crucial, unless you have a "kewl" HLC)

First if there is time I have them write out all the bible verses cited by the WTS about blood in Lev. This usually results in temporarily accepting that these are dietary laws only.

The next thing is to show them the "flash" that occurs with IVs (as they already have an IV attached), this gives me the ability to say well "geez....you have already been transfused." Since the blood is not part of salvage or continued circulation it is a WTS violation. I assure them that I myself have raised the IV blood transfusion issue with the WTS, yet nothing has appeared in print banning IVs.

Finally if all else fails we have a recording of a nurse speaking to the WTS, with each blood answer being "matter of conscience".....even got the Bro agreeing this is the same as organ transplants.

If DFing is brought up I show them references to Bulgaria. I remind them of when Apostles denied Christ, none were smited or unforgiven by Jehovah. I tell them they can always repent, claim weakness and blame an evil agent of satan for talking them into signing the form or they can even claim they don't remember signing the form, because of all the stress of a life and death moment.

I tell them they don't have to tell a soul about their medical decisions. As a HIPAA hospital, medical information is confidential under penalty of law.

I have spoken to Staff Nurses to instruct JWs personnel that Lev 5:1 oft used by the WTS is a Mosaic law not covered in Acts as well as the legal repercussions.

The only people I have seen affected are other jws....hearing that they died faithful and comparing it to those who died in the Nazi camps. JWs do not support their own beliefs until the push comes to shove. There are many jws that don't fill out their medical directive cards/POAs making treatment hard when an accident happens. Some don't tell their doctors about their "stand" until they are wheeling them into the operating room.

The no blood clinic in this area won't treat jws unless they have a medical POA on file weeks before any surgery or treatment. They had a big meeting with jws in this metropolitan area, attended by many elders and other jws, yet not a single POA was filed with them. The jw RN who runs the program was dismayed and embarrassed and could not explain to her supervisors why the lack of cooperation. She can't explain to them either why hemoglobin based products can be used when the bible says that the blood must be poured out and these products are made out of expired human blood. They can't understand what the difference is between blood fractions the "blood components" and she can't explain it either.

No wonder nonjws still don't understand this unreasonable stand of jws, one that is not consistent even according to their own "scriptural" beliefs.

In my 10 years of nursing, I've never heard of anyone who's received a "good witness" from anyone dying as a result of refusing a blood transfusion.

When I first became a nurse, the blood issue was a problem for me. I had to give a transfusion twice because there was no other RN to switch assignments with. I reasoned the client was receiving the transfusion, not me, therefore, I wasn't breaking Jehovah's law. I knew not to share this with anyone.

Blondie, no one understands why one can't accept whole blood but can accept certain fractions or "parts of parts". This is why I finally stopped listening to the WTS. Once I figured out this is a man-made rule, I was freed.

Blood=whole dirty word for JW'S. Blood fractions=clean word for JW'S.WBTS/FDS must of had a brain fart when they said blood fractions were ok.
