What is the Story of Stuff?

From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

I read that "stuff" is different from "things".

Stuff is the whole mass of items you are referring to collectively, whereas THINGS are those items individually.

(Kinda like the difference between goop and crud -- goop is while it's still moist, while crud is when it's dry. See... each word has its own meaning. )

Have you heard George Carlin do his routine on 'stuff'? To paraphrase: "Have you ever noticed that other people's 'stuff' is s***, but your s*** is 'stuff'?"

It's easy to say whats wrong with the system. She doesnt give any solutions. It's pretty braindead to suggest the people take back the government. Voting doesnt work. The government is bought and owned by the corporations and the corporations own the democrats and the republicans. In recent times, the Bush era they blatantly fixed the election and flaunted it in the peoples face.

We have too many people in this country to all be farmers and when people were all farmers it was called the middle or dark ages, The kings would come thru and recruit/ draft/ conscript the farmers children to fight their wars for turf. I guess the kings/ corporations are still doing that today only they are paying them money to buy junk with before they kill or maim the farmers, workers children.

She was right about one thing, it wont go on forever. If it would go on forever we would be much more adanced than we are today considering the earth has been here an eternity, man must keep working up to the point the are today and then destroys himself and starts all over.

Till he does you better make enough money to buy some stuff and enjoy it. Or sit around like the lady in that video and bitch about it.

As I see it she doesnt offer any solutions.

I would think she is some sort of propoganda artist put out by the corporations to begin to prepare us as we become a third world country. Prepare us for the realtity that since we dont make anything in Amerika anymore we are going to have less money to buy stuff with.

Until we destroy the world in our quest for stuff.

Seeing George Carlin's name on this site or anywhere else makes me want to vomit. I was a long time fan of his until I heard him do a routine on the US Iraqi contractor who was beheaded. It was the most cruel, vicious, thing I have ever heard. Since hearing that POS last year any mention of Carlin anywhere and I immediately shut him off. What was hilarious when I was 21 and half drunk is not the least bit funny in my 30's and stone cold sober. I'll pass on his religion hating, America hating, liberal bull crap.
