Most times I end up drinking alone listening to the neighbours party, and watching the clock tick by {My wife wen't to bed at 11 pm}...one time a Witness friend of mine came over since we had "nothing better to do." A few naughty Witnesses go into the city to watch the fireworks...which of course is frowned upon. Did you secretly celibrate in your own way? What about now?

The jws I knew had private parties at home, inviting close friends, staying up to see the ball drop, drinking champagne, wearing hats, etc.

I knew some that rented rooms at a hotel, and stayed overnight (no drinking and driving).

The worst day to go in field service is new years day, walking up hungover people is insane.

Our tradition was that our young daughter was allowed to watch the ball drop and stay up late. We'd have goodies and party it up. When she got older, we'd often go to some JW friends, while she was babysat, and before 12, we'd be with our daughter. My wife was not enthused about New Year's all that much so she would stay home at times and my daughter and I would celebrate the new year together (when she was 21).

For me NYE is quite the celebration. I've even booked a night at the hotel I'm staying in for the festivities!

Only once did we have a big Party that night. Elders, ms,everyone was there. All had a great time. OH, I did have to talk my ex into that one. Most of the time on New Years, I drank alone and watched Dick Clark.

I never went to a NYE's party. When I was younger, my family stayed up late and watched the balldrop. We cheered and sang the songs and everything. When I was in my late teens and early 20's, a group of us would go see fireworks. After that I was typically at home on a three way call with friends while we each drank our favorite wine waiting for time to flip into the new year. How sad is that? About two years ago, I tried to get a group together to go out to dinner on NYE and they wouldn't even do that. Last NYE, I was a couple of months into my fade and probably cried all night about my pathetic life...LOL...I've come a loooong way since then.

This year, I'm going to a NYE party!!! It will be my first!

Also, I have NEVER been able to properly explain why JWs don't celebrate the new year other than they don't want to be like everyone else.

I celebrated a couple new years eve parties with non jw friends while in. during my double lifer days!!! actually in my old congregation a group of us would go over someone's house and have drinks and wait for the fire works. no hats or anything like that. But basically just staying up and being together since we're going to be awake anyways.
