What are your views on SAME SEX SCHOOLING? Does it give a better education?

This came up in conversation yesterday. Me and my brother went to an all boys secondary school to complete our education and both of us hated it. However, our whole school experience was skewed by our cult upringing - especially with the 'end being just around the corner'. So perhaps I'm not in a good position to comment objectively.

Our - never dubbed - cousins on the other hand went to an all girls school and as much as they loved the boys they claim that their girls only schooling was a positive thing for them.

Surely it's just an unnatural situation though?

There is undeniable proof that girls achieve much higher results in schools that are only for girls.

There are fewer distractions for sure.... I had far higher grades in College (all girl) than in High School (coed)...had a 3.9 gpa...

Yes my schooling was totally skewed by the 'end is just round the corner' thinking too. In fact driving through the gates to my secondary school in I think 1973 my parents told me that 'this will be your school until Armageddon'. 34 years later.......

Anyway back to the thread, I went to an all boys secondary modern, a mixed technical school and a mixed secondary modern (my parents moved a lot, for either my dads job, or to help out where 'the need was greater').

I have to say that in my experience and from reports I've read, single sex education is far better for both the girls and the boys - the boys aren't trying to impress the girls and the girls spend more time studying than trying to look attractive.

I know that is a bit blase but that is basically how it seems to work.

As for me, well because the end was so obvioiusly near I didn't bother with school much and was totally discouraged about getting a career so yes I missed out big time.

    Regards

I would say I am for it, I think there would be less pressure for kids. If I had a choice for my kids I would probably put them in a mixed school during grade school then same sex for the rest.

I think same sex schools are a far better way to go - less distractions and more focus on the work but then again, I favour school uniforms so I might be a little off. sammieswife.
