happy new year to all . we are celebrating with our grandchildren.
just wondered, other than new years resolutions, and we watch to ball drop at times square , what are some fun things associated with the new year?
I know about black eyed peas.

Happy New Year to all!
I only learned that some people eat black-eyed peas for New Year's this morning. Is it just Texans, southerners, or what?
Danes eat pickled herring and bang pots and pans to chase away evil spirits at midnight. My Aunt made her kids eat at least a bite of the herring ever year, but my mother, her sister, never forced us to try it -- although she always ate some. This year, I actually went out and bought a small jar and I plan to swallow at least one bite in honor of my deceased mother and Danish grandparents. Maybe with my mature palate I'll actually ENJOY the herring?
