Has anyone thought of posting ads in local papers (we can do that free in some local British ones) to bring together more XJWs. I ask because there are still millions of people who don't have the internet and still others (such as my older brothers and sisters) who have never thought of looking for XJWs on the net.
In the first instance, it could serve the purpose of getting more people signed up and posting on here, but it could also help those on the fringe.

Also, I am constantly looking on here for people in my own county I could meet up with and as yet haven't found anyone. Any ideas?

Hey Ballistic....I have and Simon has also... i seem to remember.

I think if we got our heads together we could come up with something. What I am looking at is a support group, charitable status and hopefully free ad space!

Yes, I think it would be a good idea - I'm sure there are a lot who have lost friends and family and having a bad time who don't know about the support they could get. Just having someone to meet up with once in a while would be good.

I have an interest in the charitable status idea.

I don't believe newspaper ads have the success one would hope for. These are old-school methods that many Witnesses and even disfellowshipped Witnesses are wary of.

There is just something about the convenience and privacy of the internet that makes it particularly effective. On the other hand news issues related to JWs that the print media picks up on are particularly damaging.

Comments from a charitable organization will carry more weight in the media than from just "disaffected members".

Yes, I agree. Interestingly enough, though, there are still people out there who don't own a home computer yet. I went to dinner and dancing with a couple last night who fit that category: my date's brother and sister-in-law. These are not old, retired people. He's an engineer and works on a computer all day, using MS Office tools (not a developer, though). They just haven't ever seen the need for one at home. We talked about it some last night.

Given the society's penchant for demonizing communications, how much more likely is it that witnesses and ex-witnesses don't yet have computers?

In spite of that fact, though, it's quite possible that we could reach another segment of the witness/exwitness population with a combination of these approaches. How about newspaper ads that direct attention to prominent informational websites such as http://www.ajwrb.org, http://www.freeminds.org, and http://www.silentlambs.org?
