My Video store has a plasma T,V which plays Blue-ray movies all day long...now I WANT one!! The picture quality is many times clearer then normal DVD {remember VHS hah}...the sound is heaps better. Is it "meterialistic" of me to spend alot of cash on something I don't "need?" Watchtower be damned I want it badly!! Since it's new tech. not all movies are avalible yet...but two major video stores and many major companies have signed up with Blu-ray. It looks like HD DVD will become the new "Beta" VHS players since they are not as good.
Does anyone have a Blue-Ray or HD DVD player - Wow! nice picture!

My husband and I bought ourselves an LCD TV and an HD DVD player for Christmas. You're right.. watching a movie in HD is amazing. We like it better then going to the theatre.

My son in law got 2 Blue ray dvd players...he couldn't get either one to work!...I don't think it is a mechanical problem.
He was so pissed! They have a hd tv that covers the wall..like a theater screen. He told me the bulb cost a couple thousand dollars!
I didn't ask what the TV cost.....
Snoozy..

I plan to upgrade my computer monitor to a hi-def and get a blu-ray burner around tax time. 8.4 GB just dosen't cut it as a suitable back up media for me anymore...
As far as the HD-DVD vs Blu-ray debate goes, it's early days to predict which format will win. Beta was actually the superior format over VHS, but we all know which format won in the end. It's also quite possible it will go the same way as the DVD-R/+R situation. Players will simply handle both formats, I believe Panasonic already makes a player that does just that.

Christmas sales for 2007 show Blu-ray DVD represent 95% of purchases. HD is falling behind due to less movies being avalible, more info. can be held on Blu-ray. And picture and sound are improved. Blockbuster and Video Ezy have signed up to promote and rent Blu-ray DVD so I think the "war" is over. When the Sony PS 3 can out with Blu-ray on board I think thats the end for HD. End of 2007 has convinced me to buy a Blu-ray.

I refuse to waste money on blue ray crap. I am sure the picture is fine but there is always something that they will come out with that you "need". A Ipod phone or some clap trap. When HD tvs first came out they were in the 10k range. I just picked a 42 inch LCD up for 740$. I used to buy all the high end first out crap. Then decided to not be the first in line to empty my wallet. I purchased a cd player when they first came out, I paid 1200 for a yamaha CDX-1. 4 years later they were selling for 200 and lasted much better, a few years later you can pick on up for 99$, Same with VCR recorders, I paid 400$ for one when they were new on the market, I have had much better luck with waiting and not spending all that money on new have to have crap. I also remember going into KUBANs and always going into the high end room, seeing the new laser movie disc, they were 800@ and movies were 100@ but I was told, the picture and sound was sooooo good. Now they are antiques if you can even find one.
If I had all the money I wasted on new HTH crap and would have put it into a mut fund or IRA, I would be much better off.
