When I was a JW, I attributed such things to what Solomon called "time and unforeseen occurrence" (otherwise known as "bad luck").
Other fundy groups would claim that God is bringing these diseases upon mankind as punishment. However, JW's don't say that -- they say Armageddon is God's punishment.
However, I think they were quick to point out that AIDS is a sign of the last days (-- the "disease" horseman from Revelation).

I agree with Gopher. While JWs will from time to time imply that human medding or ignorance can bring on such scourges, generally they do not regard them as retribution from Jehovah. "Time and unforeseen occurence befall us all."
One memory I have, though, is that they would suggest the earth's weather patterns were out of control, and that the reason for tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. had to do with the way man was "ruining the earth."

THE REASON(AT LEAST ONE OF THEM) IS BECAUSE FOR THE PRESENT AVIAN FLU TO SPREAD THROUGH A HUMAN POPULAION,IT MUST EVOLVE TO SPREAD PERSON TO PERSON,
BUT JWS DON'T BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION.

JW's and othe creation believers describe what you call evolution as adaptation.
They call evolution life coming out of the primordial sea as an amoeba and evolving into humans over time.
At least thats what I remember from back in the 60's.
So creationist believe in micro evolution.
They dont belive in macro evolution.
Or to put it simply the believe in adaptation.

there is no godly origin, but its definately a sign of the last days.
(of course someone needed to design the virii and bacteria... so since evolution couldnt create a single cell god created aids etc... so its god punishment? noooooo... satan did it? noooo, he cant create... so what?) lol...

I think that as a JW I would have answered that everything has genetically deteriorated since the original sin, and that these microbes originally had other, benign purposes.
This "hypothesis" of course raises several questions, like why were animals and even microbes and the universe itself affected by the sin of the first humans, and it would also be admitting that beings evol... sorry - change over time.
I guess to the first question, they could say that the original sin caused God to retract some of his upholding, sustaining power because of the sin, which then has affected all life and even inanimate material since.
In fiction, you are free to elaborate and make up any scenario as you see fit. No one can prove that what you assert isn't real, so. Not that it would be supported by what we observe in nature and the fossil record, but then again, it doesn't have to. Just take it on faith.

The way it was explained to me was two-fold, and goes along with Gopher and Awakened. All the bad things, from viruses to mosquitos, originally had other, non-bad purposes, but the whole world has declined and is in need to God's sprucing up. These things affect man in particular because he is now in an imperfect state, and physically unable to resist them. Surely Jesus was not affected by such things as colds and flus and stinging gnats, since he was perfect, nor would Adam have been before the Fall.
