By wisdom a household will be built up, and by discernment it will prove firmly established. Prov. 24:3

Not to be overlooked in strengthening a marriage bond is the value of knowledge, wisdom, and discernment. Including among the ’precious things’ filling a happy household are such qualities as love, loyalty, godly fear, and faith. (Prov. 24:4) Acquiring these calls for the knowledge of God. Married couples, then, should be serious stundents of the Bible. And how important are wisdom and discernment? Successfully coping with day-to-day problems requires wisdom, the ability apply Scriptural knowledge. A person with discernment is able to understand the feeling of his or her mate. (Prov. 20:5) “my son, to my wisdom O do pay attention,” say Jehovah through Solomon. “To my discernment incline your ears.” By diligently applying themselves to developing these spiritual qualities, husband and wife can succeed in building up their marriage bond. Prov. 5:1

The only comment for today text is this. Solomon was the greatest apostate ever so yes we should follow his wisdom of Solomon and rebel against god’s loyal arrangement.

    Peace out !

Including among the ’precious things’ filling a happy household are such qualities as love, loyalty, godly fear, and faith. (Prov. 24:4)

Love and loyalty, the need for that is so obvious! But Godly fear and faith? Oh yeah, it's a 3-fold cord in a JW marriage. Remember Jehovah is as much a partner in your marriage as your mate is! In fact, in JW-land you're told to love Jehovah more than your partner (especially if the partner does something that you must report to the local hounders).

Acquiring these calls for the knowledge of God. Married couples, then, should be serious students of the Bible.

Not necessarily. What if they studied these verses from the Bible that demean the role of wives:

Genesis 3:16 -- Marriage is a bondage, husbands to rule over wives
Exodus 20:17 -- The wife is property
Leviticus 12 -- Women who have sons are unclean 7 days, women who have daughters are unclean 14 days
Deuteronomy 24:1 -- Man can divorce wife for 'uncleanness', but not vice-versa
1 Corinthians 11:3-15 -- Man is the head of the woman, only the man is in God's image
1 Corinthians 14:34,35 -- Women keep in silence, learn only from their husbands
Ephesians 5 -- Wives should "submit"
1 Timothy 2:11-14 -- Women shouldn't teach, because Eve was deceived and so she was at fault for what happened in the garden of Eden (and all women apparently are just as naive)

And how important are wisdom and discernment? Successfully coping with day-to-day problems requires wisdom, the ability to apply Scriptural knowledge.

Well naturally, wisdom and discernment are important for all adults. But why is wisdom defined as 'ability to apply scriptural knowledge'? It's a narrow definition designed to restrict the thinking of JW's.

By diligently applying themselves to developing these spiritual qualities, husband and wife can succeed in building up their marriage bond.

And if you're a JW whose marriage is failing, it must be due to your lack of 'spiritual qualities'. You weren't trying hard to enough to be a good JW.

Make me understand, that I may observe your law and that I may keep it with the whole heart. Ps. 119:34

Remember that Paul said: “In everything … let your petitions be made known to God.” (Phil. 4:6) Hence, personal prayer may touch virtually every facet of life. However, the first concern in our prayers should be Jehovah’s interests. Daniel set a fine example in this. When Israel suffered punishment because of their sins, Daniel implored Jehovah to show mercy, saying: “Do not delay, for your own sake, O my God for your own name.” (Dan. 9:15,19) Do our prayers likewise show that the sanctification of Jehovah’s name and the fulfillment of his will are our main concerns? Nevertheless, it is also appropriate to make request concerning personal matters. For example like the psalmist who wrote down the words of today’s text, we may pray for deeper spiritual comprehension.

Remember people we need to pray before everything going to pee, pray first! Making a turn, pray first! About to sin, pray first! I know I did.

Anyway notice that Daniel asked Jehovah’s for mercy in regards to the nation of Israel. Also notice that Israel sinned though Israel is a group of people of which some were good. If we go back to Sodom and Gomorrah we remember Abraham and Jehovah had a biding war on how many righteous would it take for good not to destroy everyone. Notice Jehovah did it any way despite the innocent children there which we most be left to assume weren’t righteous. So you ask where I am I going with this No where of course I just wasted your time.

So...this God person, the most powerful entity in the whole universe, first has to haggle with Lot (because apparently He's not all that compassionate to begin with) and then destroys cities, including all the kids. I guess that's ok when you're God and can just resurrect the ones whose hearts were in the right place later...hey, He could do that right now!

The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one. - 1 John 5:19.

1 John 5:19 19 We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one.

To resist and repudiate the evil spirit of the world takes courage. For example, it takes courage to get up and walk out of a theater or turn off the computer or the TV when indecent images appear. It calls for courage to stand up against negative peer pressure and to cut off bad associations. Likewise, it requires courage to up hold God’s laws and principles in the face of ridicule, whether from schoolmates, workmates, neighbors, or relatives. (1 Cor. 15:33) How important it is then that we strengthen our love for God and for our spiritual brothers and sisters! Take time to examine your goals and way of life to see if whether the world’s spirit has infected you in any way. If it has - even slightly - then pray to Jehovah for the courage to root it out and keep it out.

    OUCH BRAINWASH ALERT !!!!!!!!!!!!

A few things to point out.

“It calls for courage to stand up against negative peer pressure and to cut off bad associations” Notice cut off (IE SHUN) bad associations! Who are they? Well they gave us a clue. “Likewise, it requires courage to up hold God’s laws and principles in the face of ridicule, whether from schoolmates, workmates, neighbors, or relatives.” But who are good associations well they gave us a clue for that as well. “How important it is then that we strengthen our love for God and for our spiritual brothers and sisters!”

Now on to the next point. Notice their view of anything outside of the Watchtower influence. “see if whether the world’s spirit has infected you in any way” They view us the world as the diseased and even slightcontact is too much for a good Jehovah’s Witness to have with the world. I would say they are upping the isolationist pressure with this text.
