G'day josephus,
In the tempory absence of 'the smart guys' (i think you scared them off .. with flattery) I'll give you my two bobs worth.
While cruising the University library about 3 years ago, as one does when one hasn't thought of finding Watchtower/Cult information on the internet, I came across a huge book titled something like "Book of American Sects and Cults." I then spent nearly two days reading the damed thing. What had me transfixed was the fact it had listed in alphabetical order every cult and splinter group then known throughout the continental U.S.A. It was copyrighted circa 1985 and gave the religions official name (one can't just call oneself human ya know) it's headquarters address (which ranged from muli-million dollar office complexes in New York to a barn at the back of Jed Clampets place in oil soak Tennasee), it's membership and at least a detailed paragraph on the Churches, beliefs and practices.
At the time it was a real eyeopener to see so many JW splinter groups listed along with Rutherfords big splinter group. Names like "Church of Jehovah", "True Witnesses of Jehovah" and at least 80 other small groups and not so small groups that originated as Jehovahs Witnesses or Russelites.. (quite a few had memberships in the thousands)
I also thought what a good book this is for secular law enforcement agencies in keepiing an eye on the lunatic fringe. Long may the sane secularites protect America and the world from religious and political fanatics, Jesus freaks, biblenuts, nulear waste dumping capitalists, totalitarian thugs, and the people who made those little plastic bread bag closure things.
OK .. over to the smart guys .. i'll take smug over smart anyday (not that i have much choice ;)
cheers, uncle smug bastard.
and if you could give me thier names and websites too.
Don't want much do ya, ya lazy dub!!! (just getting in before the Farkelmeister
PS: Sorry I have no links here but .. Randy's freeminds site has a link to "The Evil Slave Class" and there are a number of websites where these defenders of Pastor Russell hang out and preach Biblestudent doctrine pre Rutherfords cigar smoke, brandy breath and psycotic paranoia.
