Examine the following statements and tell me if you think the WTS is irresponsible in its furtherance of religious hatred which is an evil plaguing the world today.
1 Article 1. Of The UN Declaration Of Human Rights

    quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2.Jesus Son Of God says….

    quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    *** Rbi8 Matthew 5:43-44 ***
    43 “YOU heard that it was said, ‘You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 However, I say to YOU: Continue to love YOUR enemies and to pray for those persecuting YOU;
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    3.WT Dec 1, 2001 page 19, parag 4 says…..

    quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bible explains that ‘the fear of Jehovah means the hating of bad.’ (Proverbs 8: 13) A Bible lexicon describes this hatred as ‘an emotional attitude toward persons and things which are opposed, detested, despised and with which one wishes to have no contact or relationship,’ So godly fear includes an inner aversion or disgust toward all that is bad in Jehovah’s eyes.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Question for this paragraph is ‘What hatred should Christians cultivate?’

So the UN Charter preserves the dignity of all people, Jesus showed that Christians would love even their enemies…the WTS encourages religious hatred. The hatred is to be ‘cultivated’. Truly disgusting and in the light of today’s manipulation of some to carry out acts of hatred on pseudo-religious grounds ….highly irresponsible.

How would you explain the use of hate as mentioned in that Proverbs verse?

What is this, the Watchtower study? What sort of a question is that?

Just curious about your opinion. I agree that Jesus taught us to love, but there are scriptures (i.e. the Proverbs one quoted) that tell us to hate.

In no way shape or form trying to have a watchtower study. In a real watchtower study I can't ask any questions.

this is very interesting - i would need to see the entire article here, i think. the quote is from Theological Word Book of the Old Testament. Here is the most complete quote i can find online:

HATE... ...The verb... expresses an emotional attitude toward persons and things which are opposed, detested, despised and with which one wishes to have no contact or relationship. It is therefore the opposite of love. Whereas love draws and unites, hate separates and keeps distant. The hated and hating persons are considered foes or enemies and are considered odious, utterly unappealing... The hating that is usually referred to in the OT is the opposition, ill-will, and aversion men have for fellowmen... There is also a hating on the part of man which is acceptable to God. Man must have an aversion to and depart from evil...

this lexicon, along with the WT, recognizes that the bible uses hate normally in a negative sense and sometimes in a positive sense. leaving aside whether or not too much time is spent discussing the positive aspects of hate, it looks like the relevant part quoted from the lexicon is discussing the negative side of hate, doesnt it? i thought the positive hatred was reserved for things and actions, not for people. isnt that what youve always heard? but the WT quotes part about 'emotional attitude toward persons' as a positive kind of hate. is that so? am i reading this right? i need to see the article but i dont think there quotation is very honest. seeing more of the quotation detracts from their argument.

I find it interesting that the portion quoted by the WT is before the sentence regarding hatred approved by God.

Thanks for looking up that info.

    Thanks for the quote Moxy!

What I found unusual is that the WT defines Hatred using the lexicon..and asks 'What hatred should Christians cultivate?' The 'Christian' hatred would have to be directed toward things and certainly not people.
