People need education or else they can succumb to counterknowledge.
Here's an interesting website on the dangers of counterknowledge: http://counterknowledge.com/?p=57
The website defines "counterknowledge" as misinformation packaged to look like fact. It goes on to claim: We are facing a pandemic of credulous thinking. Ideas that once flourished only on the fringes are now taken seriously by educated people in the West, and are wreaking havoc in the developing world.

WHAT EXAMPLES OF WATCHTOWER COUNTERKNOWLEGE CAN YOU THINK OF?
Examples of Watchtower counterknowledge, too many to list -- through the years they had so many.
We do well to bear in mind that among the drugs, serums, vaccines, surgical operations, etc., of the medical profession, there is nothing of value save an occasional surgical proceedure. Their so-called "science" grew out of Egyptian black magic and has not lost its demonological character.... we shall be in a sad plight when we place the welfare of the race in their hands. (Golden Age magazine 8/5/1931)
Thinking people would rather have smallpox than vaccination, because the latter sows the seed of syphilis, cancers, escema, erysipelas, scrofula, consumption, even leprosy and many other loathsome affections. Hence the practice of vaccination is a crime, an outrage and a delusion. (Golden Age magazine 5/1/1929)
They used a supposed increase in earthquakes to "prove" the end was near in the 20th century. (They've since backed off that claim.)
Their books on evolution vs. creation are full of misquotations to cause the reader to think that nearly the entire scientific community has serious doubts about the theory of evolution.
They lie when claiming that the 607 BCE date for the first destruction of Jerusalem is a fact.
There are many other examples where they knowingly contradict various areas of science just to support their flimsy doctrinal foundations.
