Look, Henry Miller did NOT have cancer. Nor was he whatsoever "tropical." What are you trying to pull?! And when you say that you should "sleep on" it, and then you say, "or not sleep on" it, don't you see the clear, glaring and obvious inconsistency?!?!
(Sorry... I think I"m catching whatever's going around in this forum. Please disregard. )

didn't I tell you i don't have any money? now go away..you bad, bad animal. Picking on a girl trying to read a book! tsk, tsk
I found this interesting:
The last twenty years of Miller's life, spent in Pacific Palisades, were humbling ones. His body slowly deteriorated, yet his wit and artistic capabilities stayed in tact. Miller spent much of his time reflecting on his turbulent life with interviewers and close friends. When often questioned about writing he has said, "It's a curse. Yes, it's a flame. It owns you. It has possession over you. You are not the master of yourself. You are consumed by this thing. And the books you write. They're not you. They're not me sitting here, this Henry Miller. They belong to someone else. It's terrible. You can never rest. People used to envy me my inspiration. I hate inspiration. It takes you over completely. I could never wait until it passed and I got rid of it" (Kraft 1993:477).
Some Tropic of Cancer quotes:
For a hundred years or more the world, our world, has been dying. And not one man, in these last hundred years or so, has been crazy enough to put a bomb up the asshole of creation and set it off. The world is rotting away, dying piecemeal. But it needs the coup de grace, it needs to be blown to smithereens.
Do anything, but let it produce joy. Do anything, but let it yield ecstasy.
I am crying for more and more disasters, for bigger calamities, for grander failures. I want the whole world to be out of whack, I want everyone to scratch himself to death.
She was a whore all the way through-and that was her virtue.
Henry Miller
Henry Miller was one of many authors I read when dipping my toe in the forbidden pool of "worldly thinking".
The guy was pretty shocking to my JW-raised sensibilities. After reading him, I figured I could at least expose myself to almost any IDEA and survive.
Open Mind
I figured I could at least expose myself to almost any IDEA and survive.
Isn't that the truth?
He can be shocking and yet it is so nitty gritty raw. I just gobble his writings up!
And his letters to Anias Nin... SWOON. (I think that is what you might call it)
Wasn't he married to marylin munroe? Was that about whom he said she was a whore?
S
Never a more Ironicaly named thing I have ever heard of that the Tropic of Cancer.

No it was a line about a whore named Claude in his book Tropic of Cancer. He has a way of describing this whore that can really make it real.
And yeah it is a funny name for a book.
