    Passing this on!

    Randy

    Greetings all,

The Winnipeg Free Press has set up an online poll (see link below) asking
who should decide whether a child gets a needed life-saving blood
transfusion, the government or parents. All you need to do is click one of
them for your vote to count. Judging by the results as of five minutes ago
(from the writing of this email) being 47% for parents and 53% for the
government, it looks like there are a lot of Jehovah's Witnesses
    participating in this poll.

Here is our opportunity to change that as we know that public opinion polls
can and do at times influence the decisions in our courts. The JWs know this
and are participating. We should too!

Pass this on and vote often!

Read and then vote your opinion on Blood Transfusions and who should decide
    for minors.

Excellent opportunity to be heard !!

Jehovah's Witness say under the authority of the Bible they cannot accept
blood transfusions. It was for the same reason that a 14-year-old girl in

Remember - someone's religious beliefs may require them to jump off a cliff
into jagged rocks and they have that right but they do not have the right to
push kids over the cliff too!

Thanks in advance for your votes and participation in this.

    Blessings to you,

    Hey Randy,

The first link goes to the article, but the poll that now shows on the article is this:

Should Prime Minister Stephen Harper come clean on what Canada is doing with its prisoners in Afghanistan? Yes____ No_____

Do you have a good link for the poll?

Schafer said no matter what the high court rules these cases will likely continue to funnel through the courts.

"We will because society has an obligation to protect children," he said.

While the courts long ago decided that adults can refuse treatment, he said society won't view children in the same way.

"You could follow your wacky views right over the cliff, if it's you and you're a competent adult," Schafer said. "But you can't push your kids over the cliff."

Quoted from the linked article above.

I like the phrase "wacky views"; very appropriate methinks.

Hopefully, the court system here will continue to win out against the witness appeals and give the kids a chance at life.

I clicked on the "View Results" button for the current Afghanistan poll and it let me see previous polls.

The "Blood Poll" is over it appears. Here are the results:

****************************************** Who should make the final decision about whether a minor should receive a blood transfusion?

    Parents
    Courts
Total Votes: 1842 ****************************************** Looks like a few more rational minds got in there under the wire. OM

The question is very vague. There is no reference to the refusal of adequate health care. Just because parents want to have the final say has little to do with the issue of blood.

If the question was "do parents have the right to choose a care policy that puts the child at grave risk including death". The response would be much different IMO.
