today i had occasion to go to the local ( only ) grocery store that also has a fueling center..... i saw a guy filling his van and thought he looked like one of the elders from the KH i used to attend ( it is winter, he was in civvies and had on a hat) ..... i parked went in and from the back of the head ( i would KNOW those jug ears anywhere) i recognized another congo member, an on again off again elder......and it confirmed for me that the fellow at the gas pump was who i suspected it to be

i dont know if i was seen/recognized, but i was already rehearsing glib non-answers to any queries had i been approached......

at any rate, i made no effort to approach either one..... is that tantamount to shunning?

No, you just avoided them. Shunning is what they do instead of talking to you once they have
little choice in showing their intention.

In other words, if you bump into one of them, or say hello, they ignore you, or say "Excuse me"
but immediately get away from you. In public, they might acknowledge a "Hello" but say
nothing else. At a Kingdom Hall, they would say nothing at all to you and expect you to do the
    same.

If you avoided this guy or the others, but they said hello to you, you could shun them by saying
nothing. I, personally don't care if all the JW's except my mother shunned me. They are doing
    me a favor.

Shunning is where desire for contact is thwarted. If two parties have no interest in contact (in the moment or long term), they may both choose to avoid contact (that is not shunning). But where one party seeks contact and the other intentionally denies it (on religious principle) - that is shunning.

LONDON, June 3 Bishops at the Church of England have drafted a "rule book" of traditional beliefs that would force out those unwilling to abide by them. The proposals call for a "narrower definition of Anglican belief" and are partially meant to keep out homosexual clergy members, Britain ' s Sunday Telegraph reported. The proposals also strongly discourage the Anglican community and clergy from pursuing liberal politics. Bishops said they are aware such proposals could lead to a split within the church.

The Telegraph reported the concept was first introduced last year, but most of the church's more liberal members refused to believe it would be supported.

Members of the General Synod, who meet next month in York, will reportedly be asked to endorse this covenant, which would mark the most significant change in the Anglican Church since its creation in the 16th century.
