when I was growing up. It seemed like everything said in the Bible was a TYPE and so WT figured out some absurd ANTI-TYPE. Where the crap did they go, and why the crap did they start?...........God I hated the BabylonTG book.....................oompa

I used to like books filled with types and anti-types, as well as all the other convoluted crap that made no sense. It was a great replacement for all the drugs I gave up when I joined the JWs. Then Freddie croaked, and that's when i started sleeping through the meetings.

This is what happens. They pick a scene for the original. Then they figure out a parallel (how could this tie in with a step toward Armageddon now) for the present. That is the "antitype".

You see that all the time. People are trying to predict the future using past history as a template. They tried predicting the aftermath of the 1987 stock market crash by examining the 1929 crash (and got it wrong). People also use it in strategy in anything from wars to business models, using successful models as the type and setting up the antitype that will best work now. Often, they will get that wrong too.

However, in business and war, if they mess up, they do not have everyone's lives on the line. They usually take a bath, but they can pick up the pieces and move on from there. When it is a deliberate attempt to get the masses to panic and prepare for the end, and they blow it, people have now lost money and time. And trust. Do this too many times, and people will no longer believe you. Then, if the end really does come, no one will believe it and everyone will have to get destroyed. That is how it is actually going to work (and that assumes that the end does come at all).

They were all non sequiturs. If things follow a pattern this time, it does not follow that it will follow the same pattern next time. Look at the number of times the Tower has botched the prediction of the end, and they have recently blown it on 2006 and 2007 including an attempt to set off the Great Tribulation with that NR37. The antitypes are not usually accurate, and they will continue misleading people with them.

The demise of such antitypes means nothing. Now, they are groping blindly for answers that are just as likely to be bad ones. This is because they do not integrate far enough into past history (just far enough to get the answer they are looking for), and they fail to account for present trends. Whether they predict things based on the past or blindly, unless they integrate fully the past with present trends, they are going to be wrong most of the time.

What is NR37? And does it not seem that WT never even mentions anti-types anymore? It used to be every other sentence 20 years ago.....oompa

The book Survival was all about types.

It even listed them in the back, if I remember correctly.

I met Freddy at a special convention in the early 80's. I asked him a question about sex. His answer " I don't know!. It amazes me he can concot loads of shit no one can understand about types and anti types but he couldn't answer a question from the bible about sex, and this is the guy in the drivers seat!
