The meaning of the term "Bible Basher"

*the following is a public service announcement from The Ministry of Words*

It would seem the term "Bible Basher" can be used it two opposite ways, with the primary
and "official" meaning being a synonym for "Bible Thumper". That is, a Bible fundamentalist
who thumps or bashes you over the head with the Bible (metaphorically, most of the time) in
a attempt and prove their position, rather than use actual logical argumentation.

However, I have ALSO seen the term used (and have used it myself) to describe someone
who Bashes the Bible. (Criticizes or insults it) This obviously could (and has) created some
    confusion.

So, unless we can decide on its meaning right here, for all time, in the future we might
want make it clear which meaning we intend if the context does not make it obvious.

    As you were,

The official Newspeak term is Bibash. Bible Bash is allowed but is being deprecated. Bibthump was pruned from Ingsoc two versions ago.

I hate being confused by someone's meaning.

So from now on, let's eschew obfuscation.

    I prefer to obfuscate eschewance.

    This linguistic minimalism is aggravating.

Try "Bible Critic" to describe someone who analyzes it.
