It's a beautiful song, but yeah, there's also possibly some NWT-inspired lyrics as well:
"Some time I think it's peace and safety / It could be yah for sudden destruction" .... "These are some serious times / All I can see around us is just violence and crime" (= "Critical times hard to deal with will be here, for men will be ... without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness") .... etc.

I wonder if he's studying with the Witnesses or if he IS a Witness?

I doubt he is a Witness currently; in another of his songs, he talks about smoking pot: "its 4am, gozta get mi marijuana & go bed". But it is possible that he's studying, or was raised in, or otherwise just uses their Bible...
