You see, part of the "evidence" for a young earth is the "fact" that humans created stories about dragons. Like the ubiquity of the Flood myth ("How could so many cultures have the same story without its being historical?"), the many examples of stories containing dragons are pointed to as evidence of man's having lived alongside the dinosaurs.

Or........
Stories of dragons (and other monsters in mythology) reflect the fact that people have been digging up fossils of extinct megafauna for thousands of years. Funny thing how traditional locations of dragon habitats in China just so happen to be where "dragon bones" are dug up.

I think the site is meant as a joke, but it is, as you know, based on real claims of young-earthers (http://hauns.com/~DCQu4E5g/Fire.htm). You are probably right, of course. Huge bones and the human imagination are probably sufficient explanations for the dragon myths. Also, you know better than many how vivid images can travel from culture to culture. And there's always the Jungian archetype.

Here is a link to a book titled "The First Fossil Hunters", available on Amazon. The book demonstrates that some fossils which were known to the Greeks and Romans were the basis for some of their mythology. http://www.amazon.com/First-Fossil-Hunters-Paleontology-Times/dp/0691089779/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1203893832&sr=8-1
