Ello, ok, so I didnt want to go to the gym today, and to make up for that, my husband asked me to find the answer on something, so here's the question, and im hoping that someone can help answer it. Thanks inadvace for any input!

Why is it not ok to leave blood from a wound on the ground? (like if you got a good cut outside or something in the grass, why can the blood not be there?) I hope im explaining this right. I know your suppose to clean up blood, by why can JW's NOT leave it if its in a difficult spot?)

Does this also apply to band aids and such? how are you to dispose of these things? Can you just throw them in the trash, or must they be burned?

I think he heard a rumor about this or something, and really wants to know the answer. We know about the whole Transfusion thing, and that is NOT what we are asking about.....so, anyone have an idea? or is this just a rumor about the spilt blood?

I should probably point out that I am not a witness, I was raised by witnesses. Perhaps others have a different experience.

I have never heard of witnesses being more careful about spilt blood than anyone else, I remember as a kid, ripping my arm open on a brick wall and leaving a trail of blood all the way back to the house. The only cleaning up done was in the house after I went to hospital, the trail outside was left.

I think it is just a rumour but some witnesses are nuttier than others so perhaps others know of people who took the blood thing more seriously and actually washed away spilt blood.

    Welcome to the Board!!

I don't know the answer as to why that may be but I will Bump your thread To The Top (BTTT) of the active topics list.

My best would be that it would be out of respect for the blood. Second guess is that it was for health reasons.

I'm sure someone will come along with the real WT position - hopefully including publication references.

Again - Welcome to JWD. Nice to have you join us.

I am not aware of any doctrinal dictates about what to do with blood after it has spilled - there are no rituals or special handling required.

Many Witnesses have a sensitivity to blood due to the transfusion thing. But the only doctrines talk about what NOT to do with blood (don't take and store it for use, don't eat it, don't accept it in a transfusion except for the exceptions...).

No special handling once it's gone out and you can't put it back in.

I heard some guy at work say CSI had an episode were a guy was a JW and refused to allow his blood to be drawn because of JW dogma. He then said he would try that if he ever got in trouble with the law. (he was known to BTW) I set him straight on that.

Was a jw for 35 years. I never heard of not leaving blood on the ground. They do use a particular scripture for their own use that sounds similar. The scripture says that blood should be poured out on the ground in the case of killing an animal for food, and not eating the blood. . .aka properly bleeding an animal.

They used this reference forever in explaining why they couldn't store their own blood (pre-surg) for transfusion if needed during surgery. Then when they changed their doctrine and now allow a dozen or more specific blood fractions, this scriptural reference is nowhere to be found.

And no, no burning of bandages was required.

It is a health care issue. At the hospital, we red bag all bandages (bloody disposables), double bag (certain wounds), and it is put in a biohazard bin to be burned.

I never heard of Jehovah's Witnesses doing it??

I saw this thread and before opening it, I speculated about its contents.

I never heard about JWs being particularly careful with their own blood after it is 'spilt'. However, doesn't it seem logical that if "life is in the blood" in the way they think, that they would be totally freaked out to lose their OWN blood? Now, being a JW, losing it would freak me out a bit just knowing there is no way I am getting any replacement any time soon . . .but if some essential part of the 'life' was now gone, what does that do to their humanity? Just a random kind of musing.
