In a message that I read earlier today, someone posted a comment about not being able to refer back to scriptures, is that true? Are JW's told not to cross reference?

That would be an interesting discussion if that were true.

The newer NWTs are cross-referenced. In fact the first segments printed in 1950 were cross-referenced.

*** w06 8/15 pp. 14-15 "Let Us Compare Scripture With Scripture" ***What if you cannot understand a scripture even after you have considered its context? You may benefit from comparing it with other scriptures, having in mind the overall tenor of the Bible. One excellent tool for doing this can be found in the NewWorldTranslationoftheHolyScriptures, now available in whole or in part in 57 languages. This tool is a list of marginal references, or cross-references, that appears in the center column of each page in many of its editions. You can find more than 125,000 of them in the NewWorldTranslationoftheHolyScriptures—WithReferences. The "Introduction" to that Bible explains: "A careful comparison of the marginal references and an examination of the accompanying footnotes will reveal the interlocking harmony of the 66 Bible books, proving that they comprise one book, inspired by God."

Thanks for the info, just what I needed. I was confused when I read a post that said it was a suggestion that they did not follow other scriptures, just to go with the present one. Most all Bibles have cross references, so that is a given to use it as part of the whole Bible. I use cross reference often. I think many do not know truly how to use it. An opinion I have is that the WTS can sometime use cross reference agaisnt the next to disprove another Christians belief.
