    Hi

I am sitting here trying to figure this all out. I know this is a subject that has probably been discussed before in one way or another. However, there is a slight touch on it as my mind is going a million miles a second.

The issue of Jw's being taught that Jesus did not raise bodily but as a spirit despite the fact that our Bibles, even the NWT say that it was not a spirit, "for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have." In the begining of the that verse Luke 24:36 it says Jesus Him self stood there" if Jesus was magically turned into Michael or a spirit wouldn't it have said The spirit of Jesus or Michael the Archangel stood there?

LOL I guess I have to be careful in what I title my headline.. especially when I have such tempting pictures.

The 'touch this' comment was more or less for when Jesus was saying touch him, feel him...

    Hey, Bite Me -

Believe it or not, the Catholic Church teaches that Christ was raised bodily and that everyone's body will be resurrected and reunited with their soul at some point. Jesus' body was material and he could eat and be touched, yet he could pass through walls. It was different from the bodies we have now but was still a body, as even the NWT says, and enough like our current bodies that he didn't stand out. JWs think they're the only ones who preach a resurrection of the body. They're wrong.

I can't remember what the witnesses believe but my understanding is that as a now powerful spirit being you can ""put on the flesh"". You know part of both worlds - that of the spirit and flesh and can move between the two.

When I was a witness I was taught that Jesus did have a physical body when he was resurrected. I was told it was a temporary body which he appeared in.

I don't recall being told it was a spirit body.

I have explored this with my study conductor. Watchtower Jesus (I do not dignify their Jesus, Rightwing Jesus or any other Jesii by recognizing them to be the same person as Bible Jesus) was apparently intent on playing tricks on people to fool them into thinking he had a physical body, even though Jehovah vaporized it somehow. (with antimatter, perhaps?)

Then 18 centuries later Jehovah sent Watchtower Jesus to tell some invisible spirit beings that the FDS was channeling that all the materializations were just a Heavenly Jest and he was really a ghost the whole time, a truly Holy Ghost.

My study conductor looks at me like I am from another planet when I say things like this, but I point out I would have never thought this up from reading the Bible, it was at the helpful spiritual banquet that the FDS laid out that I swallowed this story.

    Kurt,

So was I correct in saying that the JW doctrine is that Jesus had a material body (but a temporary one)?

I'm surprised that you are studying with the JWs - why are you doing it?

I am fascinated with researching religion and culture. Watchtower teachings are a blend of 19th century Adventist, Spiritualist, Masonic teaching, with a generous dash of Rutherford's drunken ramblings.

It is also personal. My study conductor is a humble sincere man, unlike some of the pushy arrogant clods that have showed up at my door in the past. He gets to fill out his time card with something better than people hiding out or being rude. We talk about a lot of things for a couple hours, rarely open a Bible. I have even gotten through with just a token look at WT literature, mostly having conversation. Plus, I ask him stuff that WT literature does not cover, so he has to think about what it is he tells me.

Where does the spiritualist element come in with JWs?
