Hi there fellow depresed one. I have suffered
severe depresion the last five years and found
professional help in conjunction with medication
was very effective treatment. I am on 30mg
Paxil a day and feel "normal" whatever that is.
Please do not mess around with depression cuz
it truly is nasty stuff but the "good news" is very
treatable. IMHO pick a regimen and stick with it.
many various routes and you may have to try
several but once one works stay with it. I have
fallen off the wagon twice, my own choice as
I felt I could do it on my own, but now back om\b
meds.
Cheers,
battman
20 mg of Celexa here.

I have 14 yrs. of treatment resistant, severe depression. I've had ECT, taken more meds than I can remember, and been hospitalized more times than I can remember. I am now on a "complicated regime" of meds. I see my psychiatrist and therapist on a monthly basis. I hate taking all these meds but I know what would happen if I stopped. Depression is very treatable for most people. Don't give up on finding the right med(s).
I found the elders in the congregations we were in after I was diagnosed didn't know anything about depression. Some thought it was a problem with demons! In all the hospitalizations (I think 30+) only two elders ever came to visit me. They have such love for the "sheep" under their care, don't they? I have had so much support from "Christendom". Prayers, calls, cards etc. I am so VERY, VERY, Very (3 times for emphasis) glad to be out and free!!! The thought of what I might be like if I were still in is my worst nightmare! I'd probably be committed to a state hospital !
New drugs for depression are certainly better than the older ones.
There is, for instance:
Effexor - 225 mg/day is theraputic
Serzone - same as Effexor
And if your depression is accompanied by anxiety (which is usual) there are the benzodiazepines. Recommend everyone stay away from Xanax, it's a nasty one. However, Valium and Klonopin (for the hardcore) seems to be very good.
If you're into natural approaches, you can try:
1 gram of L-tyrosine and 200 mg vitamin B6 every other day on an empty stomach, which you leave empty for at least an hour, plus a zinc and magnesium supplement (don't take much of that; only what's recommended on the bottle).
This formula is used by people coming off opiate addiction, the cause of the most deadly form of depression known.
Let us know how it works?

You may not want to, but many of my friends have been able to find a measure of comfort with drugs....sometimes they are necessary. Don't let yourself fall into it too much without a doctor to help you....
Paxil is their weapon of choice.

Francois--You should be careful of recommending a medication and dosage--what is therapuetic for one is poison for another. And then there are people like me who take Effexor but need 300mg per day to benefit from it.
Depression is a serious illness. Don't hesitate to seek medical care for it.
Thanks everyone. I've already done the Paxil and Wellbutrin. Neither did anything. I guess I'll have to try something else.
Francois, I've been on all these natural things for years. I guess I'm a hardcore something or other. At least you people care and I really appreciate that. If I find something that works I'll let you know. Thanks again. Kilroy (was here)
