Terms changed with the appearance of the NWT. The phrase "present truth" disappeared except in one song.
But it does appear in some articles even in 2006
*** w90 10/1 p. 17 par. 7 Keep Seeking the Kingdom and God’s Righteousness ***In Isaiah’s day backsliding Jews found delight in their fasting, afflicting their souls, bowing down their heads, and sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But Jehovah wanted them to free the oppressed, feed the hungry, house the homeless, and clothe the naked.—Isaiah 58:3-7.

Blondie, you're awesome with those quotes. :)
edmond - whacktower is funny. Just before I left they were using the term "drifter" more frequently than anything.

'Backslider' is still a term used in some Christian groups to describe people who have left. It's not a term I like, it places people in groups, like 'apostate' does.

Blondie,
How do you find the answers and quotes mega fast, that is brilliant. Thanks everyone I thought it was a term to describe my childhood playground activities when I was on my way down the shute.

I think for my situation, backrocketing is a more accurate term. I have no intention of ever going back "up"stream to that ridiculous organization that is seeking to use me to destroy colossal value and get me into a murder situation (by having me save a congregation that someone later dies in, that would not have died had I simply not done anything).
I would rather screech right back into the world instead of knocking on a door and having to worry about that being the person that is going to save a whole region, and then have deaths result. At least my Ouija board cannot kill people in ways that I cannot foresee or control.

LOL. Sounds like something people said in the 50's, like calling people "Slackers" a la Back to the Future.

This just reminded me, in the film "Happy Feet" one of the characters said he used to be a "back slider". If you haven't seen it I would suggest it. The JW parallels are astounding considering it's a film about a penguin community. They have elders, back sliders, shunning and everything.

Is that like "falling away" or "drawing away"
