Taken Critical Thinking at College/Uni? I'd like to know your thoughts.

This semester I am taking Critical Thinking/Informal Logic at a local University, and finding it very helpful. Would anybody else like to offer some thoughts on their own experience with this? I'd be very grateful.

Over the last 10 years my secular studies have given me a well rounded consciousness of general knowledge. During this time I began inadvertently storing a list of ideas, facts, and philosophies that I encountered which seemed to contain that red thread of truth, but stood flatly against the doctrine I was raised to believe and cherish. They somehow all peacefully co-existed with doctrinal precepts until the unruly memes reached critical mass, organized and burst forth as if I was John Hurt's stomach, leading to an abrupt fade.

This crucial are of study has finally given me the satisfaction I need to feel comfortable about my incredulity concerning JW doctrine; I've given these doubts the air they need to breath and show themselves to be empty and devoid of value. Few of them are. Even though I 'knew' that the things I learned from secular education were built from logical and empirical stock, I could always hear Pascal in my brain puttin' down twenty on the Trifecta. He's pretty quiet these days, I think he might have found my box of old Playboys.

Eager to hear what experiences others have had with this.

Critical thinking is a good way to really make a strong attempt at understanding. Contrary to what the washtowel society teaches people, the Bible wants people to prove truth to themselves. I have always been a person that expects to dig for truth. I never liked the way the washtowel was serving up their brand of truth with no real work on my part. Keep up your studies and keep asking questions.

Hi I did a sociology paper last year as a component of my midwifery studies. It felt really strange to start with but by half way through I felt refreshingly free. I now see the witlesses as a very small minority group without a voice run by a group of old farts who are stuck on tradition instead of getting real, opening their eyes and unable to apologise for past/present wrongs. I have never felt freer from those shackles than I do now that I have done that paper.

I always knew something wasn't right about JW teachings, but had a hard time putting my finger on it... then I received a college scholarship and took "logic and critical thinking" my freshman year. Didn't care too much for the Venn diagrams, but the chapter on fallacies, that had a huge impact. By understanding fallacies, and applying them to arguments the JWs used, I destroyed their so called "logic"... end of deal, and moved on... nothing to see here so move along.

I remember taking Philosophy 101, wherein I was taught that the existence of a God is something that can be debated. I also took Economics classes, where I learned that opportunity costs do matter (and should be counted when deciding to join, or leave, the witlesses).
