    Hello Thirdson

Little John, ai, I knew him well, he was a watch repairer from St.Just way down in the Far West of Cornwall, died about 4 years back.

He was a real dear, one of the most loved elders you could ever hope to meet, what he lacked in stature he made up for with the biggest heart of gold.

I can remember at 7 years old being the same height as him and feeling really chuffed that I could look him in the eye. Few elders I miss, but little John will always rank amongst one of the nicest people I ever knew.

PS You know anyone else from there? Or anywhere else in Cornwall?

    It's OK Celtic,

I'm not comming here to muck up your fred by making snide remarks about England or to tell yarns about the one eyed native i witnessed the jungles of New Guinea with or the Giant Pioneer bros of Nuriootpa. I just wanted to say that thirdson sure gets around! In South Australia he was in the same congregation as my wife .. just one degree separation from marrying her maybe lol.

    Celtic,

Thanks for the personal post and the update. I am saddened by the news. I only met the brother once but I knew immediately that he was the sort of person everyone knew and many would love. I care little for the elders who love to rule and lord it over. Little John was all heart, almost literally.

    Uncle Zerubberballz,

Only one degree of separation before we met on this board. I guess that there are only 2 or 3 degrees of separation between me and most people on this board, such is the small world of JWs and ex-JWs.

However, I sometimes feel really cut off. I never know what has happened to people I used to know in the UK. My folks never tell me anything...I guess its punishment. I registered with FriendsUnited.co.uk a couple of weeks back. While browsing my old high school I found someone I knew, the son of an elder I had known all my life. The son never became a Witness (lucky him) but I found out he's now living in Vancouver. My folks never said anything despite the fact they've known I have made 2 trips to Vancouver in the past year.

That's why I like this board. Its a chance to keep in touch and exchange thoughts within our fraternity. And it's always good to find some real and personal common ground.

    Warm regards,

    Thirdson

    Celtic,

One other note. Sorry, I don't know anyone else off-hand from Cornwall, but you never know. I know you now.

The closest contact of any note was an elder I knew. He conducted the wedding service for my first marriage. The last I heard he had moved from Worcestershire to the Torquay area. He was/is very wealthy and talks with a put-on posh accent that never quite masks his Brummy accent. He made his money selling investment plans and life insurance. He used to keep his TMS notes and counsel slips in his "Save and Prosper" folder during the 80s when I was in the same congregation. His name is Gerald Aston, wife Jane. His two kids must be in their mid 20s. His son pioneered from school and drove around in some fancy car daddy had bought him. It was OK for some.

If you've been out for some time you probably wouldn't know him. I guess he moved to Devon around 1996.
