How come a group of elderly men in Brooklyn get to be thought of as God's representatives on earth and his main channel of communication with other people abiding by their pronouncements.
If another group said they were representatives of Napolean and to obey them was the road to eternal life they would be a laughing stock.That is just as incredible as the Wacktower leaders promises of a new world order.So why should the barmy army be believed by anyone ,it don't make sense.
Most current Witnesses would have rejected the idea before they were seduced. The trick is that you don't know that you are submitting and giving your life to the Governing Body when you are in your first "free" home Bible study. You probably don't even realize it when you are being baptized because you are so excited. Once you are in, it becomes apparent that the Bible is no longer the authority but the Governing Body is. Their job is to convince you that this is "okay". If you are disobedient to laws that they make up, Bible based or not, you are forcibly removed.

You know the truth is they never made sense and the information in the Let God be True book which was the first one I read was really outrageous. But then again I thought that no one in their right mind would say such things and so maybe there was something to it as a newcomer trying to understand the Bible. They had a very solid argument against the Trinity, Hell fire and immortal soul. Their emphasis was in the wrong place but it would take a long time to discover that much. Christianity is just as bad with their wild and inaccurate theories and this really helped them. All the other Churches have their methods of control and indoctrination also so what is a person to do? This Trinity stuff and hell fire stuff was supposed to be soooo important and made all the difference when the NT message really was about the Kingdom and our role in it which they knew nothing about and had it wrong like all the rest. So they all really belong in the dumpster when it comes to doctrine and this goes for the so called scholars so many depend upon. The strange thing about all this is that a person can sit down and ponder on the texts and determine what they are really telling you without their help.
